We are in the process of buying our first home, this process is soo daunting and confusing. We were quoted one amount we would need at closing, then another. Then it seems like our closing costs are $15,000, which seems really high? Then another mortgage guy called our attorney today and said HE was handling our mortgage now. I am soo confused. HELP!

My husband will be stationed on a carrier that is moving from a local shipyard in Newport News VA, to about an hour south of us in Norfolk VA. We just purchased our first home in Williamsburg VA with a Countrywide VA (veterans) loan of $230,000. We want to keep this house and rent it out to a family, and purchase a condo or townhouse closer to the shipyard in Norfolk, to live in while he is stationed there. I have heard that lenders don't include rent money paid to us when calculating our debt-to-income ratio. Is it true? and is there any other way to convince a bank to lend us more money for a second property?

Ok so the housing market is CRAP right now most everywhere, even in WI where I live. I bought my house for $220k in 2004 and it would sell for less than that now. However on my property taxes, my assessed value is 239,800. Should I say something to the city?

I have applied for an FHA mortgage; the lender just called me to ask if I ommitted any accounts on the application because I don't have any reserves. The only reserve I would have had - the ability to borrow from the vested bal of my 401K plan - is going to be gone because I need to borrow the down payment and a portion of the closing costs from it.

If I had a relative give me a gift of the down payment, and then sign a gift letter - I am completely prohibited from ever paying that person back? As in I don't take the 401K loan, I get the gift and gift letter, and then I take the 401K loan at some time in the future to repay her???

Im pretty sure I want to move to Hosuton Texas after I finish school. I was suprised to see how affordable the city is compared to where I live now. (St Louis metropltaion area) A beautiful home in the suburbs can be purchased for under 200k. Rent in very nice communites is far less than I thought it would be. and my siter who lives in Dallas tells me that job oppurtunies are numerous for people with or without an education. However in Altalnta 200k in the suburbs will get you nothing short of a hole in the wall. Why is that? Is the city overrated?

I sent a note with my rent requesting several repairs to be made. I know they need to give me 24 hours notice before entering. I will not be home all day on Wednesday. I was told by the building manager today that if I want the repair made they will need to enter my apartment even if I am not there. I have 3 appointments that were made months ago and I am very uncomfortable with anyone being there while I am out. I am a very good tenent. Very clean, always pay the rent on time. I have 2 cats though and I am concerned about them getting out and the condition of the apartment when I return. Am I being unreasonable to want to be present while people are working around my stuff? I live in New Hampshire if that matters.

Ever since I moved into these apartments I've had numerous problems with the office. From keys not working to stickers on my work truck. I told them of a rust spot by the bathtub where the paint has come off the wall and exposed rusted metal. They did anything about it. It's gotten worse! They've still done nothing. Months ago my sink sprayer cracked. It sprays wildly when the water is turned on. I taped it as best as I could and called the office. They were going to put in a 'work order'. Nothing. Now the past couple weeks I've had at least 20 WASPS come in my apt!! I've called them several times asking them to do something. Nothing. Yesterday my dog was stung!! My boyfriend called them very aggrivated that they still haven't done anything. Still nothing done as of right now. What can I do?! I'm scared of my dog getting stung again or even one stinging me!!!

Both rate and interest as well as Escrow and taxes.
While checking on moving to a different mortgage company they said that I don't have to have escrow account. Can you explain why I need (or not) it? what are the pros and cons in having it?
(My house is insured through different company)

My boyfriend just moved into a new house for rent November 1st and found out after moving in, the gas/electric aren't turned on. He has no heat or hot water. Anyway, since it was not turned off by him, can the landlord make him pay the fee to get it back on? I know aparments wouldn't do that. Shoudn't that be the landlords responsibility? If so and the landlord won't handle it, what can be done? He's already paid 1st month's rent and security deposit.

My rent was raised this past April, but I just got notice recently that it would be raised again in December. Is this legal?

FYI, my lease was up in February 2007 and I've just been going month to month since then.

Any other advice? Thanks.

Hi - we are starting a fsbo process on a condo. Does anyone know of a good standard template to use for the offer/counteroffer process? Right now, everything is verbal and I'd feel muc better if we had things in writing.

What does this mean?? She said that the appraisal and title work had been ordered, and she would let me know once she heard from the underwriter. Does this mean that the house is mine or can I still not get the loan??

We are a young couple with a toddler renting in central NJ.
Someone told my husband it would be a GREAT idea for us to get a co-op in the Edison/Iselin area. That we could get one for 80-130k and live in it for a year and then rent it out for a profit...and buy our single family home in a good school district at that point. (But then we will no longer be "first time buyers".
Everyone I know has told me stay away from co-ops. And that if they go belly up, we'll be screwed.
Please give me any advice or personal stories you may have about co-ops.
Thanks.

I am looking for housing as close to the coast as possible.

If you have a well maintained home, 2br., 1ba. (or larger), in a safe, quiet neighborhood that you have been unable to sell, contact me. No "fixers" or flood damaged homes please!

I want a lease with option to buy on the right property. I have excellent references, financially sound and responsible.

I'm renting the lower floor of a house as a studio for 3 months (just 3 weeks left). My land lord has a $1000 deposit that i dont think im going to get back in full.

The main chunk is over changes in a water bill. Somehow her waterbill has increased $260 which she claims is from filling the hot tub twice. But according to the utilities website water costs less than $10 for 1000 gallons which is probably how much irregular water was used, this includes sewage fees too!!)

I pointed this out to her and instead of discussing it she threatened to charge extra for having had a guest over for a week ($50/day).

If she wont give the money back what are my options? Also, what if i just refuse to move out as a way to recover the deposit?
