Generally it is 72 hours, but some states may not give you that much time. As soon as it is banks property you have no legal right to be it.

I deal with banks and foreclosures here in California, most of the time this is a neogiation between the owner and the bank. There is a program called "cash for keys" and the bank will have an agreement with you to move on a certain date and they will pay you to give them back the keys with the house in cleaned out condtion

Probably not months, but days.
Once you begin the process of returning the house, the bank will want you out ASAP, typically your last day will be the day the paperwork is done. This varies by lender, but I have heard some as quick as 15 days from starting the process to being out of the house.

As soon as the bank takes possession. Assuming that you investigating a 'deed in lieu', the bank will require that you move immediately in return for same.
