Renting & Real Estate - November 2007

I recently sold my townhouse and used the proceeds to purchase a new home. Two weeks after closing, I was contacted by my settlement agent who indicated that there was a $1000 error in the closing documents (They apparently applied a $1k reduction in realtor's commission twice). They're demanding payment of the $1000 and withholding my realtor's commission until I make payment (which means that I'm receiving pressure from him also).
Am I responsible for their mistake at closing (two weeks after settlement seems a bit late)? Is there anything to protect me from them coming back and telling me that something else was incorrect on the HUD-1?

There was a septic problem in our apt that made the apt unlivable. make a long story short..mold everywhere, they had to pull up all carpeting etc. we were asked by the landlords to pay the next months rent even though we didnt stay in that apt ONE day that month. however, our belongings WERE still there. I want to ask them for that months rent back bcz i believe their ins should have paid for that. how do i go about letting them know they owe us this $$?
btw..we gave a 30 day notice @ the same time i paid that months rent so we are no longer renting from this agency.

My husband and I rented an apartment and had trouble with the upstairs neighbors. We called the landlord three times over the issue, and our last call about it ended with her telling my husband that if he wasn't happy then he needed to find somewhere else to live and that she would let us out of one year lease. So we found another place to live and told her. She told me that we would receive our deposit check because she had told me that she let us out of our lease. I called her today about the deposit check and she told me that her boss which is over Sundance properties told her that no, she couldn't of let us out of our lease and we broke our lease. Does this seem very legal? I'm just wondering about this because we were told one thing moved out and then told another.

what can she do we have viewings booked. We know she is going to make it hard to sell as she still lives there and doesn't want to move out. But as we have paid all her bills for the last year we need to get shot of her and the house. Can she have any say in the house sale or do we just have to pay her off at the conpleation of the sale?

A house that i once shared with my ex partner has been sold. We are both the proprietors of the property. He has told the solicitor that he wants them to hold the equity until we go to court as he believes he is entiltled to a higher share than me! Is he legally allowed to do this?
We lived in this property jointly for 4 yrs and i paid the mortgage which i can prove also the deposit but cant prove that! I also lived there on my own for a year and always made sure i paid the mortgage and loan, he has lived there for the past year with his girlfriend and hasnt paid the mortgage and loan which thanks to him are now 10k in arrears! I also have a child with this man who he refuses to pay CSA for. Can he do this and if it goes to court what chance do you think i have as i was happy to go a 50 50 share with him.
Thanks.

I used to work with a guy that said he did real estate investing on the side. I didn't really understand what he was talking about. But, it sounded like he finds the houses, other people pay for them, they flip them and everyone makes money off of it. How do you get into this? Does anyone do it and know how it really works?

My husband and I asked our landlord several times for a rental agreement and she never had us sign one, know that we have moved out, she has called and threaten to take us to court because of damage that was done to the place before we moved in. What rights do I have since there was no rental agreement?

I'm looking into buying a small apartment to rent out to earn a little extra money. I know the landlord and I know he'd sell me the unit. I need some advice. The unit is a small one bedroom, just 575 sq feet. New carpet, 100 sq foot deck that's not included in the unit's square foot. It is six blocks from a lake without a view. Town is small, just 1,700 but in the states biggest tourist attraction for chicago commuters. Want to know what I should offer to buy for, and what I could rent for. I know it is all realitive but the best guess for my info. Does anyone recommend or not recommend this for an investment. Thank you.

I've been offered a job but cannot afford a double mortgage. This is unfortunate because I will have to decline the job unless there is some way to avoid having to pay two mortgages until the first house sells. What are my options?

After paying the first mortgage, I would be left with $300 per month with which to pay for the second house/rental.

I have a question about flipping houses without investors. I have a good credit score (above 775) and am beginning to flip houses (the market has not slowed where I live). I am doing this on my own financially and am interesting in learning about how I can finance the flips without applying for a loan and consequently lowering my credit score with every flip. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

We have almost completed building a new house and will be ready to move in soon. We have not sold our current home yet as we decided to do this once the new house was completed. We are unsure how much we should move out of our existing home, as we are unsure whether it's OK to show an empty house, or whether it should still look lived in
