My friend and her husband have a huge credit card debt (42,000) and she recently had to stop working due to a difficult pregnancy. They cannot make their payments any longer. The debt is in her name only and they are considering a credit card debt consolidation company but she is wondering would it affect her husbands credit if she filed it in her name only. Anyone been through this or have advice? Serious answers only please...they are having a really rough time right now.

I have two credit cards and I have a student loan. I have had them less than six months. I have been making on time payments in full. So, every month my credit card balances have been zero and my student loan payments have been on time. I know I have fair credit, and it would have been higher but I applied for several credit cards before getting the two I have now. I will have one payment ( about 30 days) on my record. But it will be paid off in full. So, are there any other ways that I can improve my credit score besides paying my bills on time (already do except for that one month) and going onto someone elses credit card (impossible for me).

I have had this card (Chase) for six months. I also have a Capital One and I am making monthly payments on my student loan. I turned 18 last june and have a full time job. I have been making my payments in full and on time. And I went from having no credit to a "fair'' credit score of 627. And I know I am close to having "good" credit. However, this month I had to help out my mom with her bills, and I had to use my credit card. I will be able to pay it off but it is going to take a month, and by the time I pay it off it will have been about 30 days late. I need to know how many points will be taken off my credit score.

I have an old Cingular Wireless bill that is in collections and I wanted to know if I can call Cingular and try to settle the debt with them, or do I have to deal with the collection agency that has the old debt now. Do you think they would be willing to negotiate a settlement offer with me for a lower payment then what I owe? I had an offer before with the agency at one time, but two weeks before the payment was due, I was laid off my job so I couldn't make the payment. They have since sent it to another agency that's trying to collect. Please, someone who knows, respond with suggestions.

When I was younger, my mother decided she wanted to buy some things through mail order. Instead of using her name, she used mine. Over time she was unable to pay the bills, and we went into debt. Just recently, I was contact about the debt and have found out I am going to be sued. I was under age when my mother did this. Can I still be sued for this, even though I was underage at the time the debt occurred? My mother passed away a few years ago, so it can't fall back on her. Do I need to contact a lawyer? What do I do?

When I was 18 (big shock) I chraged a bunch on numerous credit cards, and was not able to pay them, so they are on my report as charge offs. The stupid thing is i only owe a total of maybe $6,000 to get everything paid off. So I wondered what is the best I can do to repair my credit? I dont make enough or have enough on me at any given time to pay of those charge offs, and they wont let me pay little at a time. I also obviously can't get a card or loan to pay this all of, then pay that off. And I have nothing to put a lein on. Should I really consider bankruptcy? Or what can I do? Im almost 23, and am just going backwards in credit from all of this.

and in turn I will pay off the outstanding debt. If they agree to this and then I pay them, what if they don't follow through with removing it with the credit agencies? Are they legally obligated once they agree to my terms? Obviously they won't do it before the payment is sent to them.
