Hi aweryone. I am new in UK and I just want to ask you how to make a BANKERS DRAFT or BUILDING SOCEITY CHEQUE ?
I want to rent a flat but estate agents do not take cash so I need to do one from above.
Can I expect any problems if I have Basic Account in Abbey to do this?

Thank You in advance for your answers!
M.

You will need to know the exact amount you have to pay and the name of the Payee.

Go into the Abbey and tell them you want to order a Bankers draft. They will ask you for identification, your account details and how much the draft is to be for and whom payable to.

They will probably charge you in the region of £10 - £15 for the service.

Sometimes the draft will be prepared there and then for you to take away, sometimes you need to give 24 hours notice.

You will need to have the money to cover the cost of the draft and charge in your Abbey Account before they will issue you with the draft.

Go to your bank and ask them to make up a bankers draft for you. It normally costs around £10.00. A bankers draft is a more secure payment method than a regular cheque as the bank guarantees to pay the funds over to the person cashing the cheque. The money will leave your account immediately and be held by the bank until the receipient of the bankers draft puts it in their bank account.

Hope this helps.

You need to check what method of payment is acceptable. I assume you are talking about arranging on-going payments in which case a personal cheque from either your bank or building society will do. Do not go down the route of banker's drafts or certified cheques - they will charge for these. A standing order is your best bet so have a word with your bank.
