I'm a new restaurant manager, and a non smoker. Help me understand from a smoker's perspective here.

The workers who smoke take 5 to 10 minutes to smoke cigarettes, sometimes more, and I don't have time keep going outside to get them back to work.

So, by taking the additional break time, the cigarette smokers force the non-smokers to cover for them while they are on their unpaid breaks, and they are getting paid for that break time (no way to clock out for less then 30 minutes, and they are not allowed break times if they are working less than 6 hours).

So, here's the questions:

Help me understand your situation. What is it like to go without cigarettes and why should we give you a few minutes to smoke unpaid?
Do you realize that means that non-smokers have to cover their position and yours?
How can I get my cigarette smokers not to leave to smoke during a rush, and not have to babysit them to get them back to work?

I got a job oppertunity on the internet. When I applied they said I must recruit nine more people to make a total of ten. They say they will apply for our visas and pay for our air tickets. Accommodation will be free. I am suspicious. How can I check if this job offer is genuine?

I've already redone my resume, highlighting the skills and responsibilities that I currently have, which coincide w/ that of an Event Planner; but I haven't gotten any results as yet. I invested a lot of money into my Masters in Social Work, so I really don't want to have to get a second Masters. But I'm not fulfilled in my current job. It doesn't allow me to use all of the skills that I possess, and I'm unhappy and unfulfilled. Any suggestions?

At the risk of sounding like a whiner, i have family obligations (a 13 yr. old daughter, that i need to keep an eye on..etc.), and 6 days a week, is just TOO much.

The reason she is scheduling this way, is that others have asked for the extra time off (I haven't) and she doesn't have the staff to cover it. I haven't had a vacation in 3 yrs. (I know...cry me a river!)

I know i need to also ask for more time off (no guarantee she'd approve it.) All i'm asking is for my regular 5 days.

Also, jobs are scarce in this area, especially ones with benefits, which i have.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Im looking into applying at a small cafe as a waitress. Im sixteen and they will hire a sixteen year old. But I have never worked before and no nothing really about being waitress really. I am applying also for a bussing job at another restaraunt..Do you think that would be better to start? And will a restaraunt take time to train a new waitress or expect me to know what to do going in...? I have nightmares of messing up a ton of orders on my first day if I get hired or somthing....Any advice? What do you think?

1) There's only 2 people who knows how to work this one department, I'm one of them.
2)They asked me when I can work, I told them day shifts, and they said I had to go to nights. Yet they were able to honor my coworkers work schedule.
3) My old boss was able to honor my request.
4) My new boss constanly calls me to do stuff, even when we have other associates that can do it. They even call me when I'm working on another hard task.
5) I don't know if this is premanent, but for the moment I'm working on my bosses freight. I have 6 departments without having to do my bosses freight.

My most past job was at a hotel as a cashier I loved it and even got plenty of great reviews from guests and even fake shoppers. But anyway we got a new manager in and since working there full-time and lots of times over time I have only got 3 breaks but never complained because I enjoyed people but it got to me when I couldn't stop for 2 minutes to do nothing its better for them if I do 2 then 30 but the new lady got upset.

And so did I and I said am leaving in two weeks and she told me to leave now!!

So I did and saw this job at wendys I just need something to pay for college and I put that as a past job because thats were I learned my cashiering at and I placed Publix too what I did when I was 16.

SO what are the chances of them calling that job? I heard they told other workers I stoled if I did I would be in jail but there thoes type of people I placed the wendys job yesterday hopefully they won't give them a call because I was a great worker but over worked.

Whenever I go to a Librarian interview and they ask me what are my weaknesses in this area, I never have a good answer.

I'm not saying I don't have weaknesses in different areas of life or if it were a different field, however, working at a library allows me to use those areas that are my strengths which is I'm sure part of the reason I earned my Masters in this area. I love the people, finding information & sources. I'm good at the desk work that's part of the work, ordering books, etc....But just for tomorrow, could someone enlighten me in answering this. It may help someone else who stumbles on answering this question also.

okay guys! i went to go turn in my mcdonalds application today. i went in, asked for the manager who was quite nice i might add. she looked at my application for a few seconds, said "8am-4pm?". which are the hours on my app, then said in a cheerful voice "okay we'll call you!" then i asked her for the adress for my bus schedule then she gave me a reciept with the address and number on it? so what does this mean?

ok, so the night manager at work, apparently likes me. I talk with him a lot and we hold some interesting conversations while at work and people make fun of me for it, but I've just ignored them.
well, now I'm starting to realize that he favors me a lot at work and will do things like give me more tip money than other people (we have a tip jar that we split at the end of the night). and he'll always ask me if I want to stay or go home early for whatever reason, but he wont ask others, he'll just send them home when he sees fit.
just little stuff like that is starting to bother me. I don't think it's fair and I don't know how to confront him.
