I'm thinking about going back to school for cooking/baking/pastry... i've read a little about it online so i don't want any websites or "facts". I want to know, to all you culinary buffs/students/chefs, what are the positives and negatives about school??? what do you absolutely love, or hate about it? also, what is your current job? (while you are going thru school) Any other interesting opinions about culinary school are welcome. :) thanks!

I work for a senator, and I have been working here for 4 years. I used to LOVE my job but now I HATE it. Basically, my boss is good to work for, and he's very leniant, but I hate the work that I do. I deal with the public all day, every day.

The dilemma is my husband doesn't want me to quit. He thinks I am being selfish with my decision. We have great benefits because of this job, and my salary is just ok. If I quit, then we won't have any benefits. His job doesn't offer benefits.

I personally think its selfish of him to expect me to stay at a job that I hate because of the benefits, rather than finding a better job himself with beneifts.

Also, I have a job on the weekends doing "private duty". I take care of senior citizens in their home on the weekends. My plan is to do this full time until I can get my Event Planning Business of the ground.

Would I be wrong to quit? Should I go with my heart, or should I stay because of the benefits and salary for my family?

i want to quit my job and i was just offered a job this week and was asked to go to it for an orination. I gave them a letter for one week because my training for my new job will start the next week. My boss told me i have to give the two week notice and its maintory, but i seen many eployees give a week notice or just quit. This job was over stressed for me and they would not let me leave on the time i was suppose to leave. instead i leave a hour later or two and sometimes three hours later.

I'm doing a research paper where I have to ask a question regarding future schooling or jobs. Mine is bartending school vs. on the job training for being a bartender. I need this information as soon as possible and any sources would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to apply for it, but I'm not sure if it would be right for me. I've never done anything like it before, but that's because i've never had a job before.

What should I wear? Would a polo shirt with nice jeans and some polo boots be good enough?

It looks nice, it's not dressy, but it's not too casual..

I'm a waiter at a small, hole in the wall italian restauraunt, its cool and all I work about 30 hours a week 6 days a week, for 2.13 an hour which is minimum wage for a waiter, because of tips, but I only get about 3 customers a day, which adds up to about 15.00 in tips on a good night. In an entire week I only make about 150 dollars a week. I do more work than any one else there even the chefs, and I have to put up with snobby customers and their ugly kids, but the benifets are: I can take off any day I'd like as long as I call, I can talk on cell phone and listen to ipod as long as the place is empty, which it usually is, and I get free bread and soda.
I'll I'm asking is compared to other waiter jobs is mine pretty good, or should I look else where, I'm just looking for opinions.

Hi I'm a restaurant manager and my crew is mainly high school students and some LEGAL immigrants.I always thank them for specific things they do well, try to help them when they are buried in work and try to listen and address any concerns they have. But unfortunately, I do not handle the schedule and have no control over how many workers I can have on a shift and it gets very hectic at times. So my crew is often overworked. I also have a fantastic crew that gives their best every day, and most of them do an awesome job.

Do you have some ideas that I can use to make my crew feel appreciated and to make the place a fun place to work? Our work is busy, so I can do very little to control the volume of business.

As a new manager, I want my crew to realize just how important they are to making our business a success and also because they are great people to work with.

So how can I show them just how much I appreciate them.

(I can't give them raises every time they do a good job

I heard from this friend of mine that families usually want girls to have babysit their kids. I personally think its bull **** because it doesn't matter the gender of the person, it matters on how good the person is at babysitting and if they have experience or not. So what do u personally think?

I'm interested in going to school for pastry arts, but would like some experience in a bakery before I commit myself. I've checked a few places, but they only hire people with experience. So how do I go about getting experience?

I applied for a job at a retail store and was called for an interview last Wednesday. They seemed to really like me and spoke to me as if they were going to hire me. They told me all the benefits, the job description, how many hours I should expect, what uniform I would wear...etc etc etc.

They just requested that I provide them with references, which I did. They did indeed contact these references 2 days ago.

So it's been 5 days since the interview and 2 days since they contacted the references.

Do I still have hope of them calling me back for a job offer? Should I stop waiting? Is there something else they could be waiting for? How long should I wait before giving up?

I don't understand the reason why this is happening especially since my department is so busy right now. My boss has offered to help me look for other jobs but I don't know if I trust her. I can't be angry around her because I need her recommendation when I do find another job. How can I keep my cool at work and still do my best knowing each day that comes means one less day I have a job?

I got a job in March, my first job, working at Subway. I told him that I would need 2 weeks off at the end of April, so I was working until about this time last month. I was supposed to call him around the 30th of April to tell him when I was going to be working again but didn't get back to him until the 4th of May. And I haven't heard from him since. He kind of gives us screwy hours and its not consistent, like somedays I'll work 6 days a week others he'll have me working one or two. This lady had 37 hrs one week and 19 the next. SO I don't know what to do, I feel like I should at least go talk to him. But I don't know if I should quit, because I would like a steady income you know. And I'm going to be out for another 3 weeks to a month starting the 20th of June. My mom's friend's son also is offering me a job as a waitress. WHat should I do?

I am a single mom who is going to be starting beauty school in november. I will be going to school 9-5 5 days a week, living at home and of course I need to work part time. I used to work at a deli that is right around the corner from my school and I left on good terms. I want to work there a few nights a week and maybe a full sunday or monday. I want to start now while they need help and it is busy. Should I be totally honest about my school plans or should I just keep them to myself? I am not sure if the owner will be turned off by me using this as my job to pay the bills while I am in school for 10 months then quit. What should I do?
