I'm a waiter at a small, hole in the wall italian restauraunt, its cool and all I work about 30 hours a week 6 days a week, for 2.13 an hour which is minimum wage for a waiter, because of tips, but I only get about 3 customers a day, which adds up to about 15.00 in tips on a good night. In an entire week I only make about 150 dollars a week. I do more work than any one else there even the chefs, and I have to put up with snobby customers and their ugly kids, but the benifets are: I can take off any day I'd like as long as I call, I can talk on cell phone and listen to ipod as long as the place is empty, which it usually is, and I get free bread and soda.
I'll I'm asking is compared to other waiter jobs is mine pretty good, or should I look else where, I'm just looking for opinions.

On the real...... 3 Customers a day......... 150 a week......... Find another job where there are more customers. If you plan on being a waiter for a long time. I suggest that you get the attitude off your shoulders about the customers calling you names and giving you rude attitude, its all part of the job. Because if you hate the customers at a hole in the wall place. Your gonna have to kick it up a notch to work with more customers. Your not working "yet" if your only getting 3 tables a day. Be lucky your able to talk on the phone and listen to ipod when business was slow. Alot of people are not so fortunate. 150 dollars a week to wait on 3 customers a day listen to ipod and talk on the phone!! What a deal!

A waiter's job CAN be worth it but it doesn't sound like yours is. The beauty of waiting tables is, like prostitution, it's good money, it's over quickly, and you never have to see a "client" again in your life probably so they can be as sh*tty and obnoxious as they want and you are DONE with them in an hour and a half. My husband has been a waiter for 25 years. He spends 5-6 hours a night on the job, his days are his own and he brings home 200 bucks a night, more on weekends and holidays. He IS real charming and professional and well groomed. He makes the customers feel lilke they are royalty, ALWAYS. He does very well and we love our life. We live a basically stress free, pleasant life. We have managed our money well and will retire very comfortably.

ah, welcome to the the customer service/food industry! it has its ups and downs. your situation is like my OLD ( yes, i quit ) one,. I used to work at a hole in the wall Italian restaurant coincidentally, and it was always the same, usually people who attend hole-in-the-wall restaurants are regulars, or older people. now theres nothing wrong with older folks, but face it, they are generally not very good tippers. I didn't make any money. Then I moved to Carrabba's Italian grill. BAM! amazing. free bread and soda's too :). the people are generally more upscale and rarely you have ugly kids. i brought in at least 40$ a day, and about 100 - 180 on weekend days. it was a huge difference. the computer system is a breeze to learn, and its a fun environment. So I would switch if I were you !

You have to weigh the "benefits" against the money. If you're a good waiter, you can make a lot more money at a better establishment.

If talking on a cell phone and listening to an Ipod are that important, then stay there.

Your job is terrible. I mean terrible. Go to a successful chain. You can work thirty hours and average four or five hundred cash easily.

You have to weigh your options because it is a Yin Yang thing, but I would say if you are ready to accept more responsibility then you should try.
