I don't understand the reason why this is happening especially since my department is so busy right now. My boss has offered to help me look for other jobs but I don't know if I trust her. I can't be angry around her because I need her recommendation when I do find another job. How can I keep my cool at work and still do my best knowing each day that comes means one less day I have a job?

Put your resume out there. Contact a recruiter who may be able to hook you up with another position. No, do not let your boss help you find another job. Don't expect to focus your full attention on your current job. It's history. Do what you have to at work, and focus your energy and time on finding something else. It won't help you now to work your tush off at work. If you don't do that, it will be much easier to not be angry with your boss. Look out for yourself now. Your employer won't, no matter how nice and sincere they seem to be. Good luck.

First of all relax! No need worrying about what you cant control... focus on what you can control:
- Polish your resume and have some coworkers, incl your boss, review it.
- Contact your network of friends and relatives to let them know you are in the job market and the type of work you are looking for.
- Post your resume on a few online job boards and recruiters.

For every 10K in annual salary, give yourself one month to find the right job. :)

You may be eligible for severence because your position is being phased out. It depends on your company's policy. Larger companies may pay you up to 2 weeks of pay for every year that you have worked at that company.

This is unlikely to be the case if the company you are working for is small or is privately-owned.

In all cases, you should ask you boss what severence policy your company has for job elimination.

You should make sure that your job is in fact being eliminated versus a performance issue or a personality issue.

You may also want to ask what other jobs are available in the same company that you may be qualified for.

At least you got a decent amount of warning. Try to not show your anger at work, and let your boss try to help you find something else. But look on your own, too.

Good luck.
