Not usually. It is usually the server tips out the bartender/host. Most restaurants are even moving away from that and paying host an hourly rate.

I use to hate to work at a place where I had to tip the host for doing her job, on top of the $7.50 they make a hour.. or tip her for not doing her job. I have seen them take smoke brakes or just be standing there talking, while I had tables that needed wiped off. I usually go say something to them, and management. I was tipping out $15-$20. a night based on my sales, they need to do their jobs.

I have been a host too. We did not get tipped out, and we had to roll all of the silverware for the restaurant, and stock to go items, just make sure you understand all the policies where you are going to work. Some places are great don't let me scare you. I worked in restaurants for 10+ years and loved it... I am thinking of going back....

Legal Assistant, just not as much fun, I miss the people.

It totally depends on the establishment but usually not. Unless you seat really good tables in sections with waiters/.waitresses that slip you some money on the side.

Generally speaking, servers will tip the host(s), and not the other way around. But this isn't always the case and does vary from place to place.
