Tell the manager you would like to put in your 2 weeks notice, that you no longer want to work there. Work out your last schedule, part on good terms and then collect your last paycheck when it's available. You're not obligated to stay at any job, you can quit whenever you want to.

Don't quit unless you have a REAL reason to quit.
Future employers will look at your job history and if you quit to just because you wanted to they will look down on that kind of behavior.
You should be thinking beyond your parents ability to pay for you. Do you want them supporting you for the rest of your life? If you develop good working ethics now at your age, then in the future you'll be more able to stand on your own two feet.
Now, if you find a better paying job...then you can say on a resume, 'Quit Sonic due to finding a better opportunity.'
Also, you could be saving that 'extra' money which if in a savings account will draw interest and make you more money.

If you don't need the money, then go ahead and quit. If you still want to make extra spending money, try looking for a job that you will enjoy more. Fast food places are pretty bad to work at. Think about what you like doing and get a job related to it. For instance if you like music you could work at a record store, or if you're into fashion you could work at your favorite clothing store. But keep in mind that most people don't really like their jobs! It's just something you have to do. Since you're still with your parents, why not put it off for at least another year?

Well... The experience and longevity look good on a resume.
And you're probably meeting people.
However, if you absolutely hate your job, and think you can do better you have two options.
You can leave peacefully and be really sweet to your manager and get him/her a present or something. And make an excuse for leaving.
OR
If you never want to mention working at Sonic again, especially not on a resume, you can tell your boss what you think of him/her. Have Fun with this option.

Continue working 'til a couple of weeks before school starts, then give your two weeks' notice. Just tell your boss that you need to spend more time on schoolwork.
I'm saying keep the job 'til then. Save your money for some of the college expenses you have that your parents don't cover. Trust me, there will be some.

Because looking for a job while you are employed is not cheating and you job doesn't have feelings. Another thing, you NEED a job to support yourself. You don't need a relationship. Actually sometimes it's best to be alone between relationships.

why do you want to quit then ? I mean I understand that this is only your 2nd job . if you really want to quit then at least give the manager and boss 2 weeks notice and make sure you stay the full two weeks and then you will leave on good terms . good luck .

Just let them know that you are going to be quitting. Be sure to give 2 weeks notice, that's only professional. An if they ask why, you can just tell them the truth or if you feel uncofortable just tell them you don't want to work over the summer.

Write a resignation letter to your boss simply stating that you are giving two weeks notice. Thank your boss for the work experience and for hiring you, but explain that you are pursuing other interests at this time.
Then work the two weeks -- unless they don't need you to stay for the two weeks.
That way you'll never get a bad reference from that employer. It's the right thing to do -- give notice.

You always want to leave on a positive note so that you will have a good reference in the future.
It is customary to give 2 weeks notice. You can tell your boss that you are giving him/her 2 weeks notice for personaly reason. You don't need to say why. Work your 2 weeks. Try to avoid coming in late or calling in sick until then.
Good luck!
