The reasons of laying him off is due to his bad attitude, bad-mouthing the mgt, can't get along with fellow workers, etc. What drastic thing will he do on his last day in office, your views is appreciated.

I've been interning for three weeks at this company. I absolutely love the place and want to secure a job there. I was basically hired with the assumption that if I do a good job, I could get hired on permanently. I am doing well with the work itself, but I am not sure if I am rubbing my co-workers the right way. You see, I'm really shy and keep to myself and haven't opened myself up. How can someone like me, who is really shy, make herself stand out at work? Any advice?

While you listen. You can't understand what he/she is saying. Always mumbling. Keep asking again and again. Some times you give up and continue to work. The management should of known this.

If you were to come to my company and apply for my position you would be told that the pay is from $16-18 an hour. I think everyone actually starts at $16 though. I put in my resignation yesterday because my director is refusing to give me a pay raise. My immediate boss doesn't want to lose me. He asked me to come up with what my minimum accpetable would be so that he can take it even higher than the director to keep me. I told him I wanted my regular annual raise (3%) and an additonal $1 per hour. This will take me up to $17.50, the way I see it if that if the company sees me as one of the best in my position and a valuable asset I should be getting paid on the high end of the curve not the low end. This is my first civilian job (prior military) so I'm not sure if this is a silly way that i'm looking at things. Right now our company really does need me and I realize that, but how can i trust my company if those that run it aren't looking out for me right?

If you are a contractor and your client wants to hire you, is it legal or ethical for that client company to ask for proof of your current salary (like your tax returns or pay stub)? This is the first time I heard of a company asking for that. Any supporting information that it is ok or not ok would also be helpful. Thanks!

I quit a teaching job four years ago. Even with all the vacation time, teaching is a very stressful career. Since I left it, I am thankful every day that I was able to escape the stress. At one point an “opportunity” came up and I took a contract again. The deadlines, nonsense paperwork and hypocrisy made me feel like so dead and miserable. It was a great relief when it ended. How do people do this? Now I’m getting by doing low-pay work, hard work, but somehow I am more able to enjoy life. Being single and having no dependents makes it possible... probably a lot of people would “drop out” if they could. Being poor sucks, but I think I’d rather be dead than have to play those games every day. Do you have a similar story? Are there many of us? Can you recommend any books for people like us? Please, no sarcastic responses. Looking for sincere communication.

A friend of mine has been working in this company for 7 years. Although dynamic companies have ups and downs, this company has been down for a while and on the verge of being bankrupt. I know of this because I was a former employee there and has been dismissed illegally. However, for the last 3 years, our old company is having trouble financially and backwage arrears (like government-mandated raise) have not been paid. Salary pay is delayed for like 3 payroll periods. Now, my friend and former co-worker found a new better-paying job. Since she plays a key position in the company (not a manager though) she tendered her resignation and having a big heart, she gave a 30-day grace period. Now the Human Resources would not accept it. Can she sue them?
