I've been interning for three weeks at this company. I absolutely love the place and want to secure a job there. I was basically hired with the assumption that if I do a good job, I could get hired on permanently. I am doing well with the work itself, but I am not sure if I am rubbing my co-workers the right way. You see, I'm really shy and keep to myself and haven't opened myself up. How can someone like me, who is really shy, make herself stand out at work? Any advice?

Have a good attitude and smile a lot. Also, try to open up-- you should know what your co-workers are into by now, start by talking about their interests. That worked for me. Good luck!

It is good to be yourself. but sometime we need to improve on our image to get more noticed. I am of the opinion that you should smile a lot. You do not want at this particular stage want to rub anyone in the wrong way coz the image will stick. Do what is right according to the company policy to your colleage and all is going to be great. Also be the greater worker you can be.

Ask questions! Questions are icebreakers! You'll either get a straight forward, dry answer - or, if they're as cool as we hope they are... you might get a pearly white smile, an answer, and something you both can giggle about.

That's how I do it. As forward as I can be at times... I'm mostly... just a shy little person.

Good luck! =)

So long as you do your job with integrity and professionalism, I do not believe that the company will fire you because you are shy. They will acknowledge your personality and may assist you with your confidence but so long as your doing your job right, that's all that matters.

to stand out, come to work naked.
to get the job, keep doing a good job.
to get people to like you, hang out in the break room, make yourself visible. keep in mind that people are probably as uncomfortable around you as you are around them so if you at least are around they start to notice you and realize that you are one of them.
