I have a broker account and purchased 100 shares of mastercard and sold it on September 10. Now my wife also has a broker account and purchased mastercard on September 15. We will be filing our taxes married and filing joint. Would you consider the above transactions a wash sale??

My rental agreement was up on 11/31/07, I found out on 11/26/07, I would be able to move into my new place on 12/8/07, Considering the circumstances that they are remodeling my apt as soon as i'm out, i figured they'd pro rate me even though i didn't put in a 30day notice. Yet i thought wrong, when i contacted them. I was informed in fact i would be responsible to pay up until 12/26/07 30 days from time of notice. This had me agitated so i said ok well my lease is up on the 31st what if i'm out by then? The apt. manager told me thats fine just make sure your keys are turned in by that evening. So that i did, i was out by the end of my lease. although i never put in 30 days notice. they have now sent me a bill for 496.00 due to the fact i didn't put in 30 days notice. anyone know the law? if i'm out by the termination of my lease am i still resp. for 30day notice? or how this legally works? they said its going on my credit in ten days? which is now tomorrow..... not sure what to do here

I really don't get it. Many of the admin jobs are filled by women and many of them are overweight( alot) and the companies don't seem to care. Why?

Why they don't care for their employees''s health. Moreover these office workers are the first person that clients see. Its not presentable to have a super overweight person.

Whta's wrong with saying Hey we'll hire you but we'll give you some encouragement and maybe provide some Money as part of your benefits package to get in shape.
That's actually helping people, not hurting them.

I always see overweight administrative people that don't try to change and the companies dont care and moreover they keep eating junk food at work.

When someone files a lien against you, is that done through a bank, or is it thru the state/local courthouse...etc??

Does filling a lien even have anything to do with a bank really??

I was thinking its all done thru the state or local county agency? Do they even notify banks if you have a lien against you?

Hi, I want to start investing but I really don't know where to start. I like the idea of buying stock and have a decent amount of information on how it works (basically buy a growing co. then sell when you feel the time is right).

I don't even know where to start really, what site to use, how to even do it. I would greatly appreciate if one can go through the steps with me and give me some tips that I can use to help me as a beginner.

Hi,
My 3 roomates and I have been looking for a house to rent, and when we thought we found the perfect one, the owner asked us for a "holding fee".
We gave him $800 to hold the place, but he never made us sign any contract or paperwork. The only proof we have are the money order stubs. We later changed our mind about renting the place, because the home owner was very condescending and rude towards us, and we did not want to have to deal with it for the next year.
If we take him to small claims court, is there any way we will be able to get our money back?

a while back my mother applied for a special credit card in my name and i didn't know anything about it until the card came in the mail. i called customer service to say i had no idea what this card was and had never even heard of them and i wanted the account closed. when i called my mom outraged to tell her what happened it turns out she's the one who got the card in my name. I'm not sure how but the account is still open and maxed plus delinquint fees. i have to accept some responsibility for it because i have made a few payments on the bill but don't feel as though i should have to pay all of it since i did call and state clearly that i didn't know what it was and wanted my account closed. i've asked her for the money to pay it and she just refuses to give it to me....can i dispute some of the bill amount with the company since i did close it once before and somehow it remained open?

I was sent a letter saying that I owed a credit card 2000.22 with a bank I have no recolection of. MBNA from 2001. I would of remembered that bank because it is one of the mainstreem banks. The letter states that they will attach my property, or my paycheck and will get their monies owed. I have no property and I only can physically work a little due to medical problems. Is this letter just a threat. Will they take me to court for 2000.. dollars? To be specific the letter says "you are being sued" Please if any advice on the matter I would appreciate it.

Hi,
I've opened a 529 account for my son recently, with the minimum funding of $25. Are there any tax implications if I fund this account before December 31? Will this reduce my federal tax if I do this?

I live in California, and I know that I don't reduce my state tax through my 529 contribution.

Thanks!

I am going to be making $37,000 a year. I am 22 years old, and I live with my boyfriend in our own apartment. I am currently paying rent, student loans, an additional credit loan, credit card payments, my car payment, my cell phone etc. so I need as much money as I can get in my checks. We get paid twice a month. I would like to claim 1 so that I can get more money in each check but I dont want to have to owe anything when I file my taxes. How can I figure out what is best for me to claim? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!
