We are shopping around for home owners & car insurance. Travelers is coming in cheaper & with more coverage than other places. I have not heard of them before (which doesn't mean anything) but Wiki has a lot of good things to say about their company. Curious on personal experiences & recommendations!

I am buying a house and have to either get a jumbo loan (just over the $417k limit by about $10k) or a 80/15/5 loan(s). If I go the 80/15 route will it still be considered a jumbo loan with higher interest rates on both or not?

Hey there, we're a young family trying to save up for a home of our own but its really hard to save up money each month because we just had a baby and well, it's more expensive than we'd figured originally.
We try really hard to stick to a budget that allows for savings but our savings is not very big and it's slow going.
We have no credit card debt because we don't even have a credit card, but it concerns me that we won't be able to get a loan because we have developed no credit.
We do have student loans but we haven't started paying them back yet.
Any suggestions on what we can do to get into a house of our own? We really want to quit wasting $700/mo renting a way too small apartment when we could own a home of our own, we just have no idea how to go about it.

I live in East Los Angeles, I've lived here my entire life so I'm used to the traffic and weather and everything. However, I've also lived in one house with my parents and sister for my entire life. I'm actually planning on moving out to North Los Angeles (namely Santa Clarita) but I was wondering how much it would cost to actually move out?

I'm looking into renting a one-bedroom apartment with two other people, I looked it up online and the rent prices range from $600-1300 a month. My parents say you would only need about $800 to move out, but I was surprised because I thought the total would be about several thousand.

So how much would it cost to move out into a one-bedroom apartment with two other people in North LA? I'm asking this as it counts for everything: gas prices, food, rent, bills, shopping, etc.

The FairTax is a bill in congress that would eliminate all federal taxes and replace them all with a 23% national sales tax. A rebate is issued to everyone for the calculated amount of taxes spent on the basic necessities of life.

I have only one credit card. And for the past 2 months, I only used the credit card ONCE to buy plane tickets the second month I owned it and paid it off. I don't have to pay an annual fee, but I was wondering if they charge ANY money because I used it once. And I won't be using it much because I like using my debit card. So if I don't use it for a little while, will it be ok? No charges, no fees....right?

My pay schedule is going to change from weekly to bi-monthly. Im under the impression (and hopefully im wrong), that a higher percentage will be taken out because the check will be bigger, even though im still making the exact same amount yearly. Hope this isnt true because it would mean that my take home pay would be less now. Im looking for clarification from someone who knows about this.

I was curious, with the markets being up 5% in the last two weeks has everyone lightened up their stock positions. One of my rules of investing is to always lighten my positions as the market goes up, and to put money back in as the market goes down. In the last few days I have lightened my positions by about 25%. Now I may end up kicking myself if the market continues to go up another 10%, but I have learned from experience that I would be more upset if the market dropped back 5% and I hadn't taken any money off the table. So I'm curious as to how many others have lightened their positions, or are you letting everything ride?

I filed my taxes early last year, then the next day after I filed, I got another form in the mail for unemployment. So I amended my taxes and had to mail the forms in. I didn't do it, so I am wondering if I can still get the money when I file for this year? Would I need to send that paperwork in? It wouldn't be anything for State, but about $300 back for federal.

I've been at a job for 3 months and will be moving out of state next week. I've only planned to give 1 week notice as I am a temp and the location will be closing within the next year. I work for a staffing company. I know I need to let my staffing co. know but I guess I should also say something to my supervisor at my actual place of work? Would you say something later today or early tomorrow? What would you do?

I have student loans to pay. Almost $1000 a month! The total amount I have to pay back is about $70,000.

When my mother passed away, she left me tons of money. That money I will be getting this year. (enough to pay off all of my student loans with).

I THOUGHT that an obvious person with that kind of money would pay off all his bills. But I am being told differently.

What I am being told is to invest the money, save the money, put it in a life savings account and keep it locked away. I am being told that I have a respectable job now and that I can pay the $70,000 off my self. I was told, Once you grow older, there will be a time in your life where I will need that kind of money. To open a shop or to invest in something or to purchase that house?

I want to start doing this 401 K thing and save money, but I can't with these l student loans on my shoulders. But I understand the sense of saving money.

What would you do if you were in my shoes? Pay off your debts? or Save it all?
