My husband and I are trying to buy a small business for $250,000.00 and have been told we need to have 20% down. We dont have $50,000.00 and were wondering how other people handle this problem.

I was given a books a million gift card for christmas but the giver did not write the value of it on the card nor with it.I We don't have any of the stores close to where I live, so I was wondering how I can find out what it's value is either online, or if there is a 24 hr number I can call that will tell me what the value of the card is. I know most gift cards provide a number on the back of the card to call and check the balance but this one doesn't. Nor does it have the website info, and when I checked books a million's website, it just explained how to use the gift cards to pay online, not how to find the balance. Any help would be wonderful. I really didn't want to ask the giver what the balance was. Thanks!

tax refund process? I usually efile and do the direct deposit.

Is any aspect of my tax return filing scrutinized "more" due to the fact that I owe them money -- which will be taken out against my refund check?

I'm just concerned that the normal process will be slowed significantly.

THANKS!

I am about to start in Real Estate, so I want to know what are consider business expenses. Are this?
Lunch/Dinner with client
Car (gas, miles)
Adverstising
Business Cards
Work clothes, etc.

I am 98% sure of all of those being business expense that I can deduct on my taxes but I am not sure about the work clothes, I just spend about $350 dollars in work clothes to look presentable now in January 2008 since that is when I am starting, also I just bought a $250 on a phone (treo) since that is the one that can unlock the lockboxes for when I am showing the homes, so would I be able to deduct that in 2009 when I do my taxes as a self emplyed?

Thanks

Me and a friend of mine have our own business, we make shirts, we give piercing to people, we sell electronics, all legal.
But we are thinking of emailing people asking for a paypal donation to help our business (so we can buy more resources to sell), and if it goes well, they get some of the money, and minimun, their money back.
is this legal or does it sound illegal?

All of that info is true, we will not add any big or small lies.

I have a bachelor of science in child development. I want to become an RN and work in pediatrics or the NICU. I thought my degree in child development would be good for this, but what is the best way to get my RN...should i just go to a community college and get it quick, or get the BSN? I need something that is cheap and fast so I can start back in the working life again. Thanks!

Back in 1996 my dad asked me to purchase a house for him in my name but he'd pay the bills. Every year for taxes I claim I owe the house and give him the money that is due to him. In 96 the person who did our taxes told us my dad had to put this info. in his tax report since he's the one who actually pays for the house every month and not I. The problem is that HIS tax guy told him I had to put it in my tax report each year and give him the money. Even though it was very frustrating my husband and I did this for six years. My dad sold that house this year and we live in different states and we both go to H&R Block for our taxes and both offices tell us the other party has to claim what he received ($30,000) from selling that house so we're both very frustrated and don't know who's going to claim that money when tax season comes he who actually paid the house or I, the name under which the house is in? As soon as the check came in my name I gave it to him, IT'S NOT MY MONEY!! HELP!!!!

The only problem is that I can't find those receipts -- am I going to go to jail? These were all cash-paid items and the store can't retrieve them either.

I really don't want to get into trouble with the IRS and will pay additional tax and penalty if I have to. I just don't want to go to jail for this dumb thing. The deductions in question were about $7K and I made $30K last year.

Please Help

All stores scan UPC codes at checkout for the price of their products, but show only "sale" items on websites. Example: Safeway, Kroger and A&P sell Boost - which has the lower price? Both sell Sylvania and GE 60 watt light bulbs; where's the better price? Why can't I access their UPC price info? I'm sure competitors already check other stores; why can't we?

Each has their own situation but basically I am not collecting enough in rent to cover my costs. I have been through every scenario. Can't sell them b/c they are worth far less that what I "paid" for them (I found out they were fraudulent transactions from the broker, who is being prosecuted by the county) Short sale is an option but these are basically distressed properties now due to high tenant turnover and my lack of funds for repairs.
I am facing missing my first payments ever in my life. I can deal with the credit hit if I can deed in lieu these back to the bank. They've been up for sale for over a year and I can't take the stress of the tenant relations, evictions, and repairs any longer, plus I am literally out of money. I have a new home I moved into due to family growth with some equity in it. What's the chance of these lenders coming after me hard and suing me and taking my equity or worse my personal home? Tenants and houses are HORRIBLE , NOT my screening. Thanks!

I have applied for two other positions in my company (in a different department). Do I need to tell my manager at this point? Both of these positions are more aligned with my interests and background than my current position and considered a promotion. These types of positions are rarely available in my company, so I thought I should give it a shot. I'd prefer to wait until I at least secure an interview. Any thoughts?

We live in a flat behind a house and the new owner of both places has just moved into the front house and tells us what to do. We are very clean tenants but she tells us to move cat food when it is outside. We also had a pile of prunings covered up that was on our side of the property and we heard her husband complaining loudly about it. This was not in any way being blown to their side. At the same time these landlords have not moved the PILES of rubbish left in our shed on our belongings left by the last tenants nor removed the rubbish from our bin which was filled by the last tenants. They also block our car in on the driveway (we use our park). Yesterday one of them walked through our area and when we asked why he said he was finding a place to put more rubbish left by the tenants. (in our area!). We also find them staring at us a lot when outside or inside. (facing windows) Any advice? We don't want the cost of moving or hassles of courts as why should we be forced to move?

I made over $70K in 2005 in the 25% tax bracket.

On the form 1099 form, they've already taken out

1910.18 = 9,550.91 (gross amount) * 20%

On top of that, I have to pay an additional 25% on the 9,550.91

Is this about right?

I charge him $200 less than what I could get from another, and he still misses rent payments. I let him do work on the house to make up for missed rent.
Unfortunately, I can not afford to keep this up. In fact, I really need to sell the house to pay for my children's college education.
Question- How much notice do I need to give this guy?
Also I am almost positve when I tell him we have to sell the house I will never see a rent check again. I don't live in the same state as this house.
Any advice to a landlord in my situation?
