tax refund process? I usually efile and do the direct deposit.

Is any aspect of my tax return filing scrutinized "more" due to the fact that I owe them money -- which will be taken out against my refund check?

I'm just concerned that the normal process will be slowed significantly.

THANKS!

Your return will be processed as slowly as anybody else's.

If you expect a refund on your 2007 return, you should file it as soon as possible. This is because IRS will apply your refund to what you owe as of the date the return is processed or April 15, whichever is earlier. You will save on late payment penalty and interest if you file early. The fact you owe for an earlier year is irrelevant to how fast your current return gets processed.

It usually takes IRS tax examiner 6-12 weeks to process a tax return and some return can be process as soon as 4-6 weeks after IRS receive the return.
If you owe money IRS will take its money and refund you the difference if any left.

If you owe them money and it's taken from your refund, but your refund is more than you owe so you will get some of it, yes it will slow down your refund, by at least a few weeks if not longer.
