mortgage company. I heard that if the mortgage company accepts a lesser amount than what you owe that a 1099 will be sent to you and the IRS and that the difference is considered taxable income. example, owe $160,000 mortgage and house sels for $100,000 at a sheriff's sale. Would 60,000 of that be considered earned income? Thanks.

isnt there supposed to be a balance? will the people who cant afford to go to college get forced into the service/labor industry? everyone seems to have such high goals here of starting a buisness and going to college and working high class jobs, which is great but if EVERYONE does that wont it cause some economic problems??? if you agree how could we fix those problems? if you disagree explain your opinion.

I recently bought a co op unit and I am going to sublet the unit. The co op requires the tenants to go through an interview with the co op board. i can understand why co op boards may require the PURCHASER to go through this process (to make sure they have the financials to be able to pay the maintenance etc. ) but why do some co ops require the TENANTS to go through this process?
thanks

I closed my home 12/03 and did not get any statement for association fee until now. When I called the HOA in the past, they mentioned that our house has not turned over to them yet which means the builder was supposed to take care of association fees. Now my builder filed chapter 11 bankruptcy, HOA is billing us 3 yrs worth of association fees. In this case, am I liable to pay the whole amount? Something is fishy. It can not slip HOA's radar for 3 yrs. On top of that HOA is charging us late fees! It's obvious that HOA trying to scrape as much as money they can from me. I'm more than willing to pay any portion I'm legally liable for. Any expert in this field, please chime in.

Thank you in advance.

We are trying to make a sheet to put in front of the house we are selling ourselves. I think we need to stick to the facts like room sizes, year built, price. That way people can compare our house apples to apples against others. My mom wants to put a paragraph instead - all flowery language and trying to "sell" the house with adjectives and imagery. She doesn't want to put details like room sizes or even the price. She wants people to call for those. Either way we will have a few photos, but I say bullet points/facts, she says creative writing. What do you think? Any good websites that have suggestions as to which way works better to sell a house?

My fiance and I plan to get married before this year is up, but I was wondering if it is wiser to wait until 2008 to get married for a bigger refund when it comes to tax time? I make around $10k a year, and he makes around $26k. Would I get a bigger tax refund if I claimed single, with one dependent and he claims single, or if we got married and did a joint return would that be better? I only ask because we really could use the money to get a better house. Last year he claimed our daughter and I claimed single. He got about $3400 total but I'm not sure how much exactly was from the child tax credit. So basically do married couples receive more of a refund, or would a single/unmarried mother?

I am from England but I work in Germany in a hotel and pay into the state pension but I also have payed voluntary contributions to the uk state pension at the same time, thinking I could get more uk pension because my credits were low. I now wonder if that was a waste of money or will it still count towards my pension?
Thank you for any advice.

My landlord recently went into foreclosure and didn't inform us. I found out when I received a letter from the Realtor acting as a representitive of the bank. However, this Realtor has already misinformed me as to my rights as a tenant - saying that although it's been only 10 days since I received the notice to evacuate the premises, and even though I paid my rent for November, that I am a 'tenant in sufferance' and that I am living here illegally - and refuses to provide me with the name of the bank who he represents, and who actually owns the property.

My question is, how do I find out who the bank is, so that I can deal directly with them regarding the refund of my escrowed security deposits and our evacuation date?

I dont have the best credit and I am trying to apply for a vehicle loan, I heard that there are companies that assist solely in helping people with bad credit find loans. I am not looking for a loan company, just a company to help me find someone to give me a loan, does anyone know a company like this?

Or do they have other tasks or have periods or relative inactivity? I'm thinking of applying to a call center for a satellite company, but it seems like it will be exhausing being on the phone all day except for breaks and lunch.
