Hey! I'm looking forward to my future, yet I'm thinking of making it easier for myself, financially.
I want to be able to make a steady income, in the comfort of my own home, whilst not investing in thousands and thousands of dollars. I'll be honest, I don't want to spend much, to earn much. And I am looking for a job tat will be fairly easy, and very REAL. Not looking for any scams, just a REAL work-at-home business that is LEGIT, and hopefully, someone here can help me!
Thank you!

A close friend asked me to cosign on 70K car for 4 yrs. And she going to pay me 3k on the day that its purchased. But Im a little worried about the deal even thou I really need the money. I know that her and her husband are financially fit job wise, but they don't have good credit. She said based on their credit score they have to put down 20K to get the car and they don't want to do that. I am just wonder is 3K a little cheap for the liability that I may face if they don't pay. Can someone help me with the pros and cons of this deal. Should I or not. Advice please...

I just started out doing freelance web/graphic design. I live in San Diego, CA and everywhere I read, I get mixed information. Some say web/graphic designers do not need business licenses, and others said you absolutely have to.

Here is my questions:

1. Do I need a license in San Diego, CA ?

2. I don't want to use my own name, but would rather use a fictitious name. I already went and got a DBA. Can I use this, or do I have to actually form a company or corporation to make this fictitious name valid ?

3. I would like to open a business account. I just want to have a separate account for all money coming in from my design jobs. Should I wait rather until I have a formal company or corporation before opening a business account, or should I go ahead and open it.

4. I want to be legal, and pay my taxes, but i don't want to start a business and file papers and licenses that is not needed and then get taxed for unneeded stuff.

Thanks guys !! All advise welcome!

I've been doing a good amount of business travel lately. My employer reimburses mileage and provides a per diem. However, both those amounts are below the standard IRS rates. For instance, the IRS mileage deduction is $0.485 per mile, while my company reimburses $0.405 cents per mile. The IRS per diem for the region I travel to is $44 / day while my company pays $35 / day.
When I file my 2007 taxes, can I claim the difference between the allowable and actual reimbursements and an unreimbursed business expense?
I travelled 2,000 miles for business, so was reimbursed $810. At the IRS mileage rate, that would have been $970. Can I claim the $160 as an unreimbursed business expense? Is the scenario different for mileage and the per diem?

I'd prefer answers from folks who have actually faced the situation (or tax specialists) rather than speculation. Many thanks!

Do you think new home builders will keep dropping there prices? Do you think it is better to wait another week or two and make an offer in December closer to the holidays? Would the deals be better?

I rent the first floor of a house that has been converted into apts. The Saturday before last, our landlord had the septic tank pumped or adjusted in same way. Upon doing so, the gases filled up the basement. The comp. who did the work said they would dissipate within a day. Instead, it started to get worse. The smell is now filling up our apt. We told the landlord about it and he sent over his fix-it man (not from the sewer comp) and he dumped bleach down the great and tried a new cap. The smell disappeared for about half a day and today it's as bad--at times worse--as usual. The guy came over and dumped more bleach and the landlord said the company would come Friday since tomorrow is a holiday.
So I want to know--just how dangerous are these gases? What are our rights? Should we go stay in a hotel? (we have three pets so that's a problem)
PS It's not a fecal smell..it's more like a musty, dirty smell--kinda like cow manure.

If my Mother's name is in the deed, but I'm the primary borrower on the mortgage, can I sell with no problems from her? Don't worry, I'm not trying to kick her out of her home. My Family is growing and she refuses to go live in a larger home, mainly because she knows that the other home will not be in her name but in me and my wive's. She's been refusing to sell, but I just found out that I'm the main borrower. My wife and two kids are sleeping in the same room and she doesn't seem to understand that we can't keep living like this. Please help.

Hello,

Prior to our getting married, my husband had taxes that he owed on that he began paying, he is still currently paying on them. My question is, now that we're married - if we file married, but separately, I can't claim my interest paid on student loans, nor can I claim the child expense (so I'm told). It was suggested by an HR Block representative to file jointly, but that I also file a separate injured spouse form so that my refund doesn't get garnished to pay his back tax. Is anyone familar with this?

I worked for a school district and recently took all of the money out of a retirement account and was assessed penalties and taxed federally on the amount. I took the money out because I have not worked and needed the money. Since I have not earned any money, can I get the tax I paid back on this when I file my 2008 return?

I remember working at my uncles shop ( as an electronics technician ) for a year around 8 years ago

these were my job duties

I had to read and interpret mechanical, optical, and electrical specifications.I used multi-meters, digital oscilloscopes, DVM and function generators
I tested analog and digital circuits and generated test reports in MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.

These are the job descriptions that I could put in words.
But i can't remember why i was testing , reading and measuring all these voltages and so on and so forth .

I dn't know if he was an evil genius working on world domination or if he was working on a project that relates to world domination ?

the bad thing is that i need to add this to my resume ,and i wanna write what was it that i was working "ON" .

what do you think , in your mind , was I working on ?
any help would make me glad .
Thanks.

I have been default on a student loan and they have began garnishing my wages. I heard that if you have dependents they are not allowed to garnish your wages or your income tax refunds. Is this true? How can I stop it? Is my tax refund in jeorpardy?

Hypothetically, what happens to a person's debts (credit cards, car loans, bank accounts, etc) after they die? If a person has no children and the only living relative and person listed in the will is a mother, are these debts then transferred to the mother? Do these debts then affect the next of kin's credit? Are the next of kin responsible for paying on them, closing the accounts, or other actions?

I was pre-approval by another financial company it quoted me of paying $2,000 monthly if I were to borrow $260K with an interest rate of 6.625% plus cost of insurance and property taxes.

Now, after searching for different lenders I see something like an interest rate of 5.875% with a monthly payment of $1,230.40 (closing cost = $6,677.00).

The confusing part is this: "We have broken your loan into an 80% 1st loan amount of $208,000 and a 2nd loan amount of $52,000 to avoid PMI. The quote below is for the 1st only. Your $52,000 2nd could have a payment as low as $347. Please call a loan consultant to get a customized quote for the 2nd."

What does the 80% means? I'm borrowing $208K first to reduce monthly payment?
