Taxing pumpkins? Give Me a Break:

IOWA has about 3,000,000 people and is about 146,000km². So if every person purchased a pumpkin for $1.00 at IA sales tax rate that is a whopping $150,000 less cost to collect. Even if ever citizen purchased 5 pumpkins for the same dollar /pumpkin price this is still less that 1,000,000.

This may cover the salary of the non-thinking bureaucrat who decided to tax this crop ---

$150,000 is a tad more that a dollar a km². Could not the state of IOWA save that much buy turning off the lights for the evening?

My husband is currently claiming 1 on his W-4. He gets a bonus check at the end of this month. He wants to change his claims from 1 to 4. So it will be less taxes taken out. Would this affect us when its time to file taxes.

My husband and I are buying a house (owner financed) from a couple in the town that we live in. Today they decided to drop by unannounced. They started pointing out things they didn't like.
I have a couple of trash bags sitting on the back porch (trash runs on Thursday) and they complained that they didn't like that. WELL...I guess I could leave the trash bags in the house so they can stink it up until trash day. A light fixture in the bathroom isn't working and my husband has it down to be replaced (can't do that till payday) and they complained about that. They went into the basement and saw that a pipe was leaking and complained about that (I didn't know it was leaking I don't use the basement for anything). And of course they came by on the day that I decided to clean out the dish washer so I had the racks out sitting on the floor and they didn't like that. Ok, well I guess I could let the dish washer get all yucky and grimy. I think we should move but hubby doesn't agree.

Or is money wired to the payee from my bank? Doesn't online banking cost the bank money? How come banks don't charge for this service. I'm not naive I know they pass on the cost to me but how?

I have been working for the same employer for about a year and a half now. Since I began working here, all he has done is made me feel small and unworthy. He insults my hair, my clothes, the fact that I don't wear make up. He even makes jokes about the the province where I grew up. I am absolutely fed up with all of his insults and how he thinks he is better than everyone else. Do you think this is verbal or emotional abuse? because sometimes it sure feels like it......

I moved to an apartment in the middle of March. Maybe a month later I found out that it had a leaking problem in the kitchen. It is now to the point that it is leaking above my sink and above my stove. My landlord has known for months, but still has done nothing. It is causing mildew/mold really bad. I have a 4 year old son. Also September 24, 2007 I smelled smoke. I called the gas company and they came out. It was the stove that had a leak, so they turned off my gas at the stove and where all the lines are. I am the only one without gas. He has known since the day that they came, because I called him while they were still at my home. I still have no gas. I don't know what to do. Legally we have no lease so I can go. But he said in front of my older sister and sister-in-law that if it cost too much he would give me back my rent for this month, October, and then I would have to get out. It is difficult because I cook dinner 5 or 6 times a week and now I can't. Help!

I worked at a big college with several campuses for about 8 months and had a disagreement with the college curriculum. I got some low-level administrators annoyed with me since they didn't like an upstart giving an opinion and also maybe to cover their unimaginative butts. Then they started to do things to undermine me. When I quit, they all said they were shocked and almost begged me to stay. The college just hired a new President a couple of weeks ago. He gave an introductory speech (which I read) to the college community. He described his 'vision' for the school and it was EXACTLY what I had been recommending. I'm thinking of calling the President's secretary and requesting a meeting, then tell him I'd be great for the place, and take it from there. What do you think? If I do it, how can I discuss the circumstances of my leaving?
