I bought my home in February of this year for $309,000 and it is completely obvious that it is no longer worth that today, just 8 months later. While this doesn't bother me too much since we plan on staying here for years to come, I am having a problem with my city's tax assessor. My wife had to go meet with him tonight by herself since I could not make it. (their appeal hours are set up for 1st shifters only and I work 2nd shift). I went on Realtor.com and printed out 10 comparable homes for sale in our neighborhood all of which are selling much cheaper per square foot than what we paid and many of them are newer. The assessor was very arrogant and didn't want to hear anything my wife had to say. He just kept saying that we "set the bar" by paying $309,000 for it so that's what the assessment will be too bad. Obviously anyone who reads the papers knows that we are in the middle of a huge subprime mortgage meltdown and home values have come down substantially. Please help.

this is considered an asset sale, selling it for less than I bought it. Can I claim a loss on my taxes? And since I haven't paid myself back for the money I put into the business when I purchased it, can I pay myself back and not be taxed? It's set up as a corp. and I have taken the depreciation on equipment. What's my personal tax liability?

my tenant who rents a room in our house may refuse to pay the next rent. there was never any lease agreement drawn up. Does the tenant still have rights if there is no lease. Do I have to serve him with the three day notice to quit.
To make matters more complicated, the tenant is my father in law. The original agreement was that he would inject funds from the sale of his condo, and my wife and I would use our good credit to purchase the house.
He firstly dishonored the agreement by refusing to use all the funds from the sale of his condo, as he used $17,000 to pay of a judgement. His credit stinks. he is not on the deed, title or note. He does no work, so the work i do I bill him for. As the bills are in his name, I offset the money he owes me for doing his one third share of work, against what we owe him for bills. he dosnt agree to this and has threatened not to pay his rent. I have reclassified him as a renter/investor rathenr than one third owner.

Seeing as how Google's shares have crossed the $600 threshold, would it be a wise decision to buy shares now? Analysts predict that Google's price per share could reach $700 next year. What do you guys think, should I or should I not buy shares?

I asked the debt colectors to validate a debt and prove that the statute of limitations wasnt up on a debt from Jan. 2003 and they advised that it was an executed and sealed contract (whatever that means) and that the SOL wasnt up for 10 years...is that true?

Hi, a friend of mine is in a real big jam and can't no longer take care of the house he now owns here in Paterson, NJ. He has come up to me with the oppurtunitty of taking over the house and property by just taking over what he owns. This way his name is free and clear to buy an apartment in Queens, NY. The only catch is that he is behind on his taxes and owes like $7,000.00 which I will have to cover. He purchased the house a year ago for $437,000.00 and the house is a money making machine. The house is a 3 family unit. 1st floor is tennat occupied 3 bedrooms one bath for $800 (in my opinion should be more). The 2nd floor is a 3 bedrooms and 2 bath apartment and rents for like $1300 and the 3rd floor is 2 bed and 1 bath rents for $1,100.00. My main concern is how can I make this work by taking over the property and having all transfer to my name. I have never owned a house before and this can be a little confussing. Please tell me if you have done something like this before.

We live in michigan, but Im wondering about the federal portion of our taxes. Is it legal for one, and second would it be better (meaning getting more money back) for us to each claim one of the children, seeing as how we are not married?
We also both live together and claim 0 dependants.

I rented out a home to a woman and she could no longer make payments or take care of premises so she moved out leaving a $400.00 rent balance and a mess of the home. I did collect a $200.00 security deposit and she was supposed to pay a $500 security deposit in monthly installments but never made it that far. Anyway her kids threw around a basketball in the basement and ruined the new paint on the walls and ruined about 20 new ceiling tiles on the ceiling, she cut a water line to install a water softener and took her softener with her leaving a cut up mess of plumbing and no working water cause the main line is cut.She put a small hole in the fiberglass tub, left stove and fridge a total mess, left 2 large staines in living carpet, holes in the wall from door knobs, ruined curtain rods and blinds. I have to repaint 80% of the basement and all the trim. What legal action can i take on this woman? And how do i do so? I live in michigan. If i had to guess ,there is approx $6 to $800 in damages

Hello, I have a Discover card with roughly a six thousand dollar balance that is next to impossible to get paid off because of the interest rate. The APR is at a wopping 28.99% due to some late payments I had made from being unemployed. I just recently moved in with a friend to help get this paid off but the payments I make are just not budging this amount! Can someone recommend a good and reputable Visa and/or MC credit card for me with a low or zero APR so I can just make payments with it to get this paid off sooner? I am dying and have to get this paid off! My credit is good. Any help/links would be great asap!

The secret is finding a way to sell things that people perceive as good (usually the small things count for a lot), and then duplicate duplicate duplicate over and over again. Think about it, IT'S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT LOWER PRICES, just look at NORDSTROMS. FInally Wal-Mart is losing their grip people are looking FOR STYLES NOW AT SHOPKO AND TARGET. So isn't that the secret of selling THINGS AND STARTING A BIG COMPANY? Usually the small things count too such as HAPPY MEALS were like a HUGE deal for McDonalds and one of their things that gave them HUGE SUCCESS. OPINIONS
