I thought it was about $7500 in total from the standard and single deduction together but I may be wrong?

For 2006, the standard deduction was $5150 and for one exemption add to that $3300.

(It will be a little bit higher when tax season comes.)

The standard deduction for a single taxpayer is $5,350 for 2007. You also get a personal exemption worth $3,400, bringing the total to $8,750 that isn't taxed.
