I was promoted at the end of July. I hired a replacement for my old front desk position and have moved into my new position. My new responsibilities began on 9/5/07. We had begun the negotiations of my raise a few weeks ago and I was told that I would have an answer by the end of that week, then the next week, etc. I am supposed to have an official answer of what my raise will be by the end of today. Should I recieve back pay? If I started my new responsibilities 2 weeks ago, shouldn't I be paid for this? What does California Labor Law state? Thank you for your help.

If I sell stock later this year and realize a large capital gain. Will I have to pay the IRS penalty for not withholding enough during the year to account for this? I could hold until the beginning of next year to sell but the stock price could fall a lot due to the financial climate we are in.

I graduated from University of Phoenix last year. They say I owe them 3k - I disagree but just want to pay and be done. I have tried to make payment arrangements (with UOP internal collections) for $150 a month until paid off and have paid on time since I made the arrangements but now they are telling me that if I don't pay in full they will send me to an outside collection agency. Can they do this?

****UK question*****

Right, my mate has £0.00 in his bank account. On Friday, he has a £200 DD going out, but he also has £300.00 coming in from work. Will the DD go out, if not then will he get charged?

At work I saw a case like this and our employee got charged £35.00 from a certain bank. In the terms it states that the money must be in the bank at least 1 day before the DD goes out.

Thank you.

I have been pressured into purchasing a timeshare, and have lost $900.00 to date. After several lies and frustrations, I am ready to walk away. I know my credit will be jacked up for a while, but thats nothing new. I am concerned that it will actually show as a mortgage foreclosure as opposed to an installment loan.

I've been working for a month and a half now. I've received 5 checks from the company and they haven't taken out any federal taxes on me. I make 8.50 an hour, full time and I claimed 4 on my W-4's. I told my boss and she said that it was because I got paid every 2 weeks and it makes a difference. I do not know anything about taxes, but i have had jobs in the past that took out taxes every 2 weeks. Is the company cheating me out? Will t6his affect me when I file taxes? Or can I leave it like that and still get my EIC for the 3 kids??? Help!!! Thanks!

I know somebody who is on unemployment (and proud of it) but I just found out he's been in jail now for 2 1/2 weeks. What are the rules on receiving unemployment checks? Don't you have to be out applying for so many jobs per week to get a paycheck? As of right now, he's still getting a check every week, what happens when they find out he's in jail!? He has this theory that when he gets out, he'll just cash all his checks and pay his bills like normal, but if unemployment finds out he's #1 in jail and #2 not applying for jobs, won't they demand the paychecks back?! Any answers? Thanks.

I've been reading different articles and blogs about paying off credit card debt and the one I like most is paying minimum on cards while you pay everything else set aside to one card and one card only until it's paid off. Then you pay minimum on the others while you move on to the next card and then the next.

I actually have quite a few cards, with rather higher minimum payments...
How detrimental would it be for me to not make the minimum payments (or any payment) on the other cards and use that lump sum to take care of 1 card in itself in only one month?
I have 4 cards that I could pay in just one month...if I didn't have to pay the others...

So I'm wondering how damaging it would be...
To skip paying all the cards next month...and pay one of the off completely.
Then the next month or two make the minimum payments and larger payments on the higher balance cards.
Then after a few months...not make any payments on a card and completely wipe out another card in a month?

I have a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from a major university and have been in the workforce for 2 years. I am looking for a Manufacturing/Project/Process Engineer job that will require lots of international travel. How do I go about finding a job that would let me travel? Is there a website that has a listing of all these types of jobs that are now looking to hire? (I am not looking for a sales position).
