I got a letter from a firm called Cohen and Slamowtiz on a debt. I don't want to deal with them, and would rather have them send the case back to Discover Card. Would a "cease and desist" letter work in this instance? Or would they simply stop contacting me and get a judgement against me instead? Is it also a good idea to include the cease and desist within the "letter of Validation"?

i just signed a contract with a debt consolidator and they are supposedly saving me 60 bucks a month but when i looked at my account i noticed that what they were paying out didn't add up to what i was paying them. the only reason i went with this company is because they are non-profit so i called and complained and discovered that they are charging me 45 dollars a month as a service fee. but the service fee can't be for the paperwork because the first month they charged extra to get the paperwork together. is this normal or is there something wrong with this?? should i cancel my account with them or are they being honest?? remember they told me they are non-profit....

I sent in for a credit card offer I got in the mail and then changed my mind. The card came in the mail. If I cut it up and don't activate it, will the account still exist? Do I have to call and cancel it even though I haven't activated it?

I am currently renting and a home across the street has recently become available for sale by owner. I have recently applied for a mortgage but my approval requires me to complete several items that may take a few months.I approached the owner with the possibility of a lease/option agreement so I may move into the home and leave the rental property. The owner mentioned today an option "fee" of $7,500 and monthly rent of $1,500 with a final purchase price of $173,900. Does the option fee typically get applied to the purchase price when I complete the sale? Should I request a percentage of my rent to be applied to the final purchase price as well? I haven't received any of the paperwork yet but just wanted some ideas. I am new to this.

Had this debate at work today regarding the subprime mortgages. It seems that a good number of the people that took out these mortgages would have put down less than 20% for their home. As a result of having to put down less than 20%, wouldn't the people taking out the mortgages have to pay PMI. Wouldn't PMI allow the lender to recover any costs that were not able to be gotten from foreclosure? While we can see a reduction in profits, we have difficulty in understanding why these high rate loans would result in a company going under due to the PMI.

I know that charged off credit cards will fall off your credit after 7 years... my question is... from what date do they go by? Is the date of last payment or the date it was charged off?

I purchased my home in Dec'06 and now I want a copy of the appraisal that was done then. I asked for it upon closing in December & was told it was the property of the mortgage co, so I didn't get it but was told the value of the appraisal was $270,000. My bank has since sold my mortgage to another bank (in Jan'07). The purpose of this is so that I can ask to have my PMI charge removed. The obvious solution to me, would be to go back to the original mortgage co & ask for a copy of the appraisal that was done in Dec'06. Thanks!!

i have an orchard bank credit card, that ive had for about a year, when they checked my history they found that ive never had a late payment with this credit card and that my credit score is above 700. they decided to hike up my intrest rate from 9% to 29% intrest with out a clear reason why. They told me the reason why is because (1.) its based on your credit score to date, and (2.) based on any other credit cards (History) that you happen to have. ok... for the 1st reason- my credit score is above 700, i had a lower credit score when i 1st got the card at 9% intrest, so that cancells that out. so..... for the 2nd reason- i read that they cannot, like its agaisnt U.S. policies to raise my credit score based on other credit cards or accounts that i happen to have. but ive never.. let me say that agiain, never. had a late payment on any of my accounts that ive ever had. (im kind of a credit freak) so why would they hike my intrest?

I have the formula for valuing a stock experiencing supernormal growth for a period of time, but then returns to normal growth. How do you figure it out on a BAII Plus calculator? The dividend goes up, but then assuming that the stock is sold at the end of the period with supernormal growth. Any help is greatly appreciated.
