So my situation is as follows:

I was very financially irresponsible during my college years and made some poor decisions that I didn't really care to think about at the time. I currently have 5 accounts that went to collection between 2 and 5 years ago. The balance due on these accounts ranges from $58 to $399. None of these accounts were revolving credit or loans, but they were unpaid bills.

I have had a steady job for the past 3 years and am starting to seriously look at buying a house, but my credit is really haunting me. Rather than waiting 5+ years to eliminate these adverse marks, can anything be gained by trying to negotiate with these collection agencies? In particular, I'm wondering how receptive they might be to receiving payment for these accounts on the condition that the negative marks be removed from my credit. Is this realistic, or do I have to simply wait it out? I have the money to pay these off now, but would rather not if I have nothing to gain from it. Thanks!

I noticed that foreclosures are listed at a relatively low price. I understand that the lender usually asks for the remaining balance of the loan, but do the houses actually sell for such a low price?
If so, how does one go about purchasing a house on foreclosure?
thank

I live in Tennessee where there is no income tax. I work in Mississippi where there is income tax but no property tax. So I have the luck of paying one state's income tax (MS) and another state's property tax (TN). Now, to pay my MS state income tax, my wife's salary that was completely earned in Tennessee is calculated into how much I owe Mississippi. Can anyone explain how this is possibly justified? I see taxing my income for working in MS (I use the roads, services, etc, it's justified). But to require that I report my spouse's income she earned in Tennessee and factor that into what I owe seems improper. The only way to avoid it is to file married separately but then that messes up our federal return. Any tips?

I live in New Jersey, and have never filed taxes before(I'm young and my parents always claimed me.) I'm a full-time student in college, and only made $1,470 in 2006. I just e-filed my federal return with Turbotax, but skipped the state return because in NJ there's a fee for state returns. Turbotax wanted $25.95 and since my state taxes from 2006 were only $20, I'd be wasting my money. Also, I know if you make less than a certain amount, you do not have to file at all, so since I only made a little over a thousand, maybe I don't have to file a state return? Thanks for any help.

I know that my brother said that when he worked for a newstation in Bentonville, AR. that the reporters hated Walmart. If the wages are so bad then there are plenty of jobs in our town to choose from and Walmart would have a lot of trouble finding staff. I have worked there and know several others who have and they have very little complaints. If its about WMT putting others out of business: If they can find a cheaper way to do stuff and therefore charge the customer less then Walmart should be able to. The way I see it, they are providing much needed goods in a very convenient manner. In the same way some sabatoge good things in their own lives with destructive, paronoid attitudes; many unions, the media, and whoever else want to sabatoge something like Walmart for their own town. If you have a sincere, honest complaint then tell me. If a corportation is doing something wrong they should be held to the fire, but most of the complaining seems to come from envy and unfounded fear
