I am 32 and qualified in IT but desperate to work in a caring profession or something that really makes a difference. I am thinking about retraining in one of the following areas....nursing...veterinary nursing, psychology or journalism. Any genuine helpful feedback gratefully received. Thanks.

For the most simple of tax returns, what is the basic percentage of pre-tax income that will be owed the gov't come tax time? Is there such a thing? I know it's not exact, not a sliding scale but is there a basic breakdown in how much you make vs. how much you will owe?

I mean if you go into work high, I would understand how it would affect your work. But what if you just need a joint after work to get away from all the stress, are you really hurting the company?

I am the buyer and due to the seller putting money towards closing costs, we have money left over after paying for the closing costs. Our lender says that he is not allowed to give this extra money back to the buyer and can only use it to reduce the loan amount.
Is this right or are there other ways in which we can get this extra money in hand?

I'm 19 years old.
I want to get a job and live in an apartment and go to work everyday and not struggle. I'm an antisocial person and would only be in the house all the time.

What can I go about starting this process?

Please do not offer words about why this is wrong or what else I should to to "alleviate the problem". In your perception, it's a problem. I want what I want; not what you want. So please, if you can offer advice on what I want, please leave a suggestion. Thank you in advance.

I keep hearing that one should invest in mutual funds that are a combination of around 60% stocks and 40% mutual funds. Can someone knowledgeable in mutual funds recommend a company (like Vangard for Fidelity) that sells mutual fund that invests with this arrangement (60/40)?

My siblings and I own mineral rights in 25 oil and gas wells that our grandparents left our mother. The income from these 25 wells is divided so many ways (my mother was from a large family) that we only receive a small monthly check of between $30 and $50 so we're a far cry from being Texas millionnaires. How do we know that the oil and gas company is pumping what they say they're pumping (and paying us for)? What federal/state agency oversees the operations of oil and gas companys? Gasoline service stations for example must have their gasoline pumps certified every so often that they are pumping the correct amount of gasoline and the customer is getting what he's paying for. These pumps are checked on a regular basis by the state department of labor. I wonder who, if anyone, certifies the oil and gas company pumps? These pumps operate day and night. It doesn't seem right that we have to take the word of the o/g company. It's very odd that 20 wells pump the exact same amount of oil.
