I received a letter from "American Sweepstakes Club" stating I won 3rd prize in a drawing for $100,000. They also enclosed a check for $2787.91 and said it was for tax costs, duty, expensives, travel. Now the check was from "Akzo Nobel" which is a world-company dealing with pharmasueticals, this particular branch, in Rosalind, NJ. My question is.....What would happen if I cashed the check and let it sit in my bank? The letter stated that money is lawfully neccessary that I spend it on the expenses I had brought up earlier. Though if it is a scam.......This is money I think they wanted me to send them, they left me a #, though when i called it, I said I got this letter and want to know why it was sent, they hung up on me. The number was from Quebec.

With people leaving corporate jobs in droves to start their own businesses, corporations cutting back on benefits, and the death of companies like Enron, what is your opinion about the future of American corporations? Do you think the "corporation" is alive and well and will continue to thrive, or do you foresee a new kind of business emerging? Do you think people are happier working for a large company, or for a small business? And do you think American corporations are at risk of losing their place in the global business community?

A lot to think about --

I look forward to your comments and insights.

My best,
Dr. Debra

I tried to cancel an order, but it was shipped anyhow. It arrived when I was not home, and I was told by the company that shipped the item to refuse the shipment and return to sender. How do I do that with a UPS shipment?

I am one of those brilliant individuals that bought his first house using a no money down, interest-only loan at the top of the market last year in Southern California. For us, it looks like foreclosure is the best option (as opposed to short selling). I'm wondering if we are culpable for property taxes and HOA fees?

If an interviewer asked me, "Do you intend to study?"

I work two jobs and I like them both but the one (i'm scheduled at today) has managers who are freaking idiots. Baboons could run this business better. I'm frankly tired of their disorganization and not posting the schedule until the day before the new week begins. My one beeotch boss made me scrub toilets last week (hey I helped her out by staying an extra hour and this was how she repays me) and I was pissed. I'm married with children and just about as old as these women. I don't need this job. Should i just not go in or is that really mean on my part? Thanks

I've been working temp-to-hire for 2 months now. I love the job and have made friends with everybody in my department. I would like to approach my boss and ask if a decision has been made regarding my employment, is this a good idea? A couple of other temp-to-hires were just made employees but they had to work here for 7 months! I can't wait that long, what should I do?!

I have an interview with a mortgage company and would like to know what some of the terminology will be and what kind of the questions I will be asked. Mortgage is all new to me, however I have only done route sales before where I earned a base salary plus commission. With this company I will make a base salary plus commission. How will that work? If sombody could please shed some light on my line of work.

I had plenty. Honestly, I never worked in a real job before; just did promotions and similar stuff. When I had to make an interview for the best position ever in a very reputed company, my nerves betrayed me. I mumbled too much, didn't respond well to questions, and said things I realized I shouldn't have said. I even performed low on a test put forward by one of the companies I applied for which was about media statistical information. The position was for OMD. The annoying part is that the test was for 30 min. and it involved a lot of thinking, not to mention that the lady who spoke to me on the phone a day earlier regarding the position told me that I will be having a math test - math test? how vague can that be! If I show you my math subjects' grades in college you would be suprised because I scored A's in all of them. My overall GPA was 3.76 by the way. Do you think I still can have a chance finding a good job in the future?

I work at an emergency call center for a propane company. During the automated machine before you reach the emergency center. It says "if this is not an emergency please press 1" I get calls all day long like "How much is the costs of gas?" When can I get a delivery?" "Why isn't the local office answering my call?"
Clearly not emergency calls. Maybe they just think that there questions are more important then someone that has a gas leak in their house. This is more of a vent then a question.

Recently CNNMoney.com had an article that reads: "Beginning at age 30, if you save $671 each month at an 8% return, you'll have $1 million by age 60. Begin at age 40, and you need to save $1,698 each month." My bank sure doesn't offer that interest rate. And the stock market isn't reliable. So where is this much-quoted 8% rate of return? Any ideas where one can invest to guarantee that kind of a return?
