I've been working temp-to-hire for 2 months now. I love the job and have made friends with everybody in my department. I would like to approach my boss and ask if a decision has been made regarding my employment, is this a good idea? A couple of other temp-to-hires were just made employees but they had to work here for 7 months! I can't wait that long, what should I do?!

yes it a good idea, if you don't look after yourself no one else will, why should you stay there if you aren't going to get hired

Talk to them. Go to the boss and say, I really enjoy working here and can see myself establishing a career here and contributing a great deal to the company. Is there a possibility this job will be permanent any time soon?

I got hired once from a temp agency after just 2 months. All I had to do was ask.

I think that you should tactfully approach the situation. Talk to your boss and tell him/her how much you enjoy working with the team and with the company overall. While you realize that they may currently be using as a temporary aid, you would like to take advantage of any permanent positions that may arise in the company.

Then, see if your boss has any advice or knows of anything you can do to help become a more permanent part of the company.

Focus mostly on how much you enjoy working for the company, how much you have learned there and how you feel that you would further strengthen the company.

While you still need to be prepared for there not to be a position for you, at least you will have put the "vibe" out that you are interested in joining the company.

Question - are you there through another agency or did the company you work for hire you as a temp directly? If you are there through an agency, you should speak to the agency and let them speak to your supervisor - that's probably in the agreement that you signed with them. I work for a company that hired a temp through an agency and all this temp did was solicit jobs - she must have asked 5 different people if there was a job for her - there was more to that but that one item of soliciting for full time perm work was grounds for termination by the agency that placed her with my firm and she is no longer with us. If you are hired as a temp directly to the company, then by all means, ask!!!!!!! (But tactfully).

I think you should just ask, I mean, whats the worst that could happen? Maybe your boss just hasn't thought about it... Also, is there really a certain amount of time you have to work as a temp-to-hire to get employed?

Alot of times, companies have already negotiated a "hire date" for their temp-to-perm employees. Many of my employees are temp-to-perm and the negotiated time period before I can hire them is 6 months. This allows the contracting company to re-coup their costs and make profit before releasing their commodity - their staff. If this is the case, pressuring your company will probably cause more harm than good as there will be nothing they can do to accomodate you.

It can't hurt to ask. You should do it tactfully. Go into the boss's office and let him or her know that you really enjoy the job and would like to be considered for a full time position if one opens up. Then ask what you can do if anything to impove your work performance.

You want them to know you are interested and you want them to start grooming you for a position.
