Why is paying half of your monthly mortgage payment in the middle of the month and the half at the end of the month cuts the amount of total interest & years to the mortgage? I did not think the mortgage calculator is the same as a CC calculator. Can some please clarify.

Background info...I am 31, he's 34, and I have a 9 year old daughter. We will be moving in to his place. I'd like to hear from others out there who have a good plan on how to handle the finances/bills. I make more money than he does. Not a whole lot, but more.

Splitting everything straight 50/50 seems odd but if it works for you, please share.

Which one of you keeps track of the bills and makes sure they are paid? Do you have a joint bank account for this, or separate? How do you handle buying groceries and household items, and the rent or mortgage payment?

I've been a single parent, and I have not lived with another adult in years. This will be a big adjustment as it is, so the last thing I want to do is end up arguing about money and how to handle it. I want to have a good plan in place and discuss my ideas with him prior to moving in so there is no question later how things are to be handled.

Any tips or success stories you could share would be much appreciated!

For a couple of months, I have found an unknown charge on my bank statement, but it was only $10, so I thought maybe it was some fee from the bank. Today I got an email from "Reservation Rewards," an on-line service I am quite sure I never intentionally ordered. Who knows where I might have clicked innocently, not realizing there was a fee, but I would never have signed up for this one even if it was free. It's about tickets to things like sports and movies and airplanes -- things I don't use.

To whom should I report this? I have printed out the various materials and believe I have evidence that this is fraudulent. Should I start by telling my bank?

The house we are thinking about buying is a house the owner sold to a relocation company...My broker gave me this 20 page addendum, which I've given my lawyer(who hasn't gotten back to me yet, which is why I'm asking here). Both brokers are using high pressure sales tatics to get me to sign these papers. What is usually in these paperwork from relo companies? My broker (who is supposed to be a buyer's agent, LOL) says that these addendum contracts are NOT revisable. Yet, I've read on other real estate forums that they are. Is there anything I should know about dealing with a relo property, because all the realtors involved are just interested in selling here, and it looks like the only person who can protect me is me and my attorney. Thanks

My last boss HATES ME!! Everything was fine until I went to interview for another job (a job I have been trying to get for like a year!). After that he tried everything he could to get me to quit. Made me stay late and then fuss at me about getting overtime. Made me do things that didn't even need to be done while everyone just sat around and talked, then fussed at me when I stopped for two seconds to get some water. After he realized I was not going to quit he said, "We have to let you go because the company is not making enough money right now to keep you." I know that was bull because I delivered $50,000 worth of merchandise to one customer the day before. Anyway... I know he will lie about me. Do I have to list him as a previous employer? If not, how do I explain the gap in employment? Thanks for your help.

OK let me elaborate a bit. I recently moved to a gulf country not a gulf state as in USA.
Job opps in my field are very limited here. So I was really glad one of the three companies in my field here (and the biggest one at that) offered me a job.
But I am in a junior position with barely any responsibilities. I send out faxes and make phone calls – which is not part of the job description but I’m ok with it, but even that takes just an hour or so per day.
The rest of the time I can do anything as long as I’m at my desk and look busy. And there’s no fear of getting fired coz everyone else is also totally under-employed. They don’t seem to mind, but I do!
I don’t need the money desperately, so quitting is an option. Still, I’d like to hear other points of view as well.

I have 10 years of varied marketing experience and a proven track record of success. I have a resume which I believe well highlights my experience and successes. I lost my Marketing Dir. job when my chicaho office closed in 2005. Since that time, I successfully created and opened a successful small business near my home town. I have decided to sell my shares in the business and get back into the traditional work force. I have been looking for a marketing job for over 4 months now and can't even get recruiters to call me back??? I'm not sure if my entrepenuerial spirit has totally ruined my chances of working in the corporate world again. Should I not even include this venture on my resume? If I don't, how do I explain the last two years and what I've been up to? I need advice on how to get back to work soon!

I posted an 'apartment for rent' ad in Craigslist.org and I've been receiving some responses to it...some if not most of them seem a little suspicious or too good to be true...

Three of them are from people who claim to be away in another country and say they're moving to the U.S. They ask for certain info like name, address and phone number claiming that they need it to send to their agent to let them know they've found a place and send a payment in check. One of them reads like this...
---
"My Company is making the payment and there going to send you a check of 7,000 usd ..u get it cashed and deduct your money and send me the balance for my other expensive here for me to come .if u accept this please get back to me the Name and address with your phone number that would eb issue for the check."
---
Why would he be so willing to pay $7000 up front for an apartment he hasn't even seen except in pictures? I'm new to internet advertising so I'd like to know if this might be a scam
