Well that would have to do on how much the wife's income is, compared with the living expenses of the family. It's no different than if the husband was working and the wife staying home. (Although it may be difficult psychologically for the husband).

In some cases, a family where both parents work could actually save money because one person's income is greater than the overall cost of child care for the family. In that case, it makes complete sense for the person with the larger income to keep working while the other stays home with the kids. In a lot of cases, the "stay-at-home" parent may supplement the family income with a part-time evening, weekend, or work-at-home job.

Also, some communities might have a differing view on how acceptable this may be, if you care about those things. In certain parts of the country, like California, mid-atlantic, New England, this wouldn't even be a cause for comment. It may be more different in a small, conservative, community, but I'm not sure.

Just as easily as a husband can support his wife and kids while mother takes care of the kids. It is strictly up to the couple. Most couples find that it takes two incomes to run a family. However, I know a few that exist on one income and it isn't always the husband's.

Yes. Just like a husband can support his family so his wife can be a stay at home mom, men can be stay at home dad's. It is more common than you think. Some women are career oriented and have worked hard to get their degrees and have high paying jobs. I think that there will always be more stay at home mom's than stay at home dad's, but that doesn't mean men can't do it. It is sexist to think that there is something wrong with it.
