Really it's simple. The first thing I would do is make sure the magazine offers and internship program. I know some like Teen People and Seventeen do. They both have the information posted on their websites. Basically, right your letter like a cover letter. Tell them what you would like to do, your writing experience and what you can bring to the team. Also, for an added bonus I would throw in a few story ideas so you can show them how serious you are about the position. Then, if you have any samples of your writing I would send that along too. Also, don't forget to mention why you like the magazine. What makes it so great that you want to work there etc. I hope this helps. If they don't offer an internship, check to see what their writing guidelines are. You can be a freelancer and write a story on spec so they can get a feel for you. I hope this helps.

Well, I think you should write to the HR rep or whoever handles internships ( do your homework)
And tell them why you think it would be a good opportunity for you – mention why you want to work with them in particular and not just any magazine. Also be sure to mention what you bring and any experience that may be relevant. But make it a one-page letter at best no more than that. Use adjectives and sound positive.
If you’re confident enough, you could try calling up directly, but they would probably ask you to write in with a resume anyway.
Hope that helps and good luck!
