Theater & Acting - September 2007

[Selected]: All categories Arts & Humanities Theater & Acting

In a few weeks I may very well be writing a short play for a professional theatre company to be performed in front of 400 people at a nearby theatre. I will be attending workshops for playwrights to devise a play with a disabled theme. The playwrights will have the opportunity to act!! That means, if I have the courage, I could very well be on stage acting at a local theatre!! I am going to voluteer. Some of the actors are disabled. I especially want to hear from other people involved in theatre or who have had some experience. I have written a few plays, but not acted in a professional theatre.
I will be so pleased to hear from you.

I am considering a career in the area of lighting design, unfortunately there aren't many resources online that provide much information. So I'm wondering are there any schools that provide a specializes degrees in this field. Should I go for a degree in theater with a concentration in lighting? For people who work in this field how hard is it to find a job, and how well does it pay. I'm not looking to become immediately wealthy, but I would like to know I'd be able to support myself with this job. Are there any websites or resources online that will give me more information???

Thanks so much for taking time to help me out!

I'm am interested in signing up with a place like Central Casting in LA to become an extra, but would like to know how often I might actually be able to work. Also, how easy or hard is to get those SAG vouchers (the ones you need three of to qualify to join SAG)? Thanks.

Any suggestions for a approx 4-6 page scene (10 minutes) with only two characters? It should be modern, and just a normal scene with human characters (no shakespeare). I have to work on it with two actors for a directing class, and I really have no idea where to start. Thanks for any ideas!!!

I am going to college and high school at the same time. I am only 15. I was supposed to be in a college play and i would have made it for sure (maybe not a big role but definantly in the play) because the director is my theater teacher and she said she loved my acting but now we found out i cant because it doesnt fit my high school schedule (12-4). Rehursals begin at 2:00. Now thats gone. I am going to hang around during rehursals from 2-3 during my free period but i can anly go once in a while. Now what do i do?

P.S In the summer i will be taking acting lessons in school and MAY BE in a play.

I asked this a few hours ago, but it was in the afternoon when everyone was still at work. I had tryouts for our school musical today, and I tried out for Meg (the play is Brigadoon) who has two songs, 120-ish lines, and moderate dancing. I did very well on the singing (I'm in the most advanced choir in our school) and pretty well on the speaking, but I'm not very good at dancing (mostly because they teach it to you in 30 seconds and then have you do it). Do you think I will make the callbacks?
Also, any advice for if I do make callbacks would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

okay, so I auditioned for my first high shcool play, "urinetown: the musical" and I thought I did okay. I got called back the next day (which was today) and I realized I had a GREAT chance at getting the lead role of Hope Cladwell. The thing is, they are having another callback tomorrow, for acting (today was singing) and what if I don't get called back? I don't want to cry at school! how do I set myself up that if I am disappointed, I still walk away with a smile on my face? I'm soo confused and I don't know what to do. I don't want to look like a little baby crying, especially in front of my friends. Help?

I'm auditioning to be in the play The Mousetrap (great play, by the way!) and for those of you who know the characters, where do you think I could get a good monologue to audition for either Miss Casewell or Mollie Ralston?

The rehearsal is for a play and I don't really need to be there. But the director is a stickler and needs to know in advance if I can't be there. I need a good, believable excuse to use.
