Sounds like a scam to me... did you talk to a company like John Robert Powers? Look it up on www.ripoffreport.com
You should know that legit agents cannot recommend specific acting classes! It's against SAG rules.
If this $2000 is a package deal, agent and classes then it's definitely a scam!

If acting is REALLY your dream, then the cash is just a small investment to get what you want.
BUT, before you pay ANYTHING toward it, make sure you do some background checking. Talk to others who have taken the class, and read the contract CAREFULLY to know exactly what you are getting for your money. Ask the "agent" about other actors they have worked with, what roles their actors have gotten, and do some checking on that as well.
There are tons of "acting classes" out there that really are fronts for nothing more than job applications for small roles...maybe 2 or 3 roles available for several thousand hopefuls.
It's easy for the industry to screw actors this way, because labor laws forbid companies charging for job applications (classes), or interviews (auditions). So they front the actor searches as "classes", and then you pay them money to learn things you pretty much already know, and have to sign a stipulation saying that taking the class does NOT guarantee that an agent will sign you or that you will land a role, or even that you will get an audition.
If you really want to start the process of being a serious career actor, go through more legitimate channels.

Wow, that's seems like way to much money for acting classes as far a lump sum payment goes. I too would be worried that you are stepping into a scam. I've taken classes with at one of the best and most respected acting studios in LA, and $2000 would last me for about 7 months worth of classes. I would seriously doubt you are getting anything near the quality, so I would take a good hard look at who these people are.
And I fully realize you want this. Most people on this board really do, Just don't be so blinded by your desire that you don't see things for how they might really be. If you could give us the name of this acting agent and classes, it would help those of us with experience out it letting you know if this is indeed a scam. And like it was mentioned before, if it's JRP, then run run away. It won't do you any good except emptying your wallet. Contact me under my user profile, and I give you some tips on how better to put $2000+ to use to help realize your dream.

go for it you'll never know what could've been unless you go out there and try. i'm trying so hard to just get an interview with an agent. but make sure it's legit if they've told you that you need to pay them (the agent) it's not legit. you don't pay them until they get you hired this is how they make money. if you go into an audition and they want to sign u for a trial period tell them that you will get back to them because you have another appointement (even if you don't) this will make them want you more and then if you think it's right go for it they will get you auditions. pls go for this if it is your dream i can't wait to see you on the next big hit movie

If your parents said yes, then I would go for it. If you don't like it, or you find it's just not for you, you can always drop out later. It's better than regret later on.
