okay, so I auditioned for my first high shcool play, "urinetown: the musical" and I thought I did okay. I got called back the next day (which was today) and I realized I had a GREAT chance at getting the lead role of Hope Cladwell. The thing is, they are having another callback tomorrow, for acting (today was singing) and what if I don't get called back? I don't want to cry at school! how do I set myself up that if I am disappointed, I still walk away with a smile on my face? I'm soo confused and I don't know what to do. I don't want to look like a little baby crying, especially in front of my friends. Help?

It is always wrenching to not get cast. But it is a big part of being an actor and you have to learn to live with rejection. Try not to care whether you get the lead or chorus or nothing. Stanislavsky, the father of modern acting, said, "love the theatre in yourself, not yourself in the theatre" in other words, the play is more important than your ego, he also said "there are no small parts, only small actor" meaning all the parts of a show are important and only a creep would be too good to do a small role. When I directed musicals, lots of them, I always said the leads were the easiest to cast because everyone wanted those roles, and the chorus was the hardest. because nobody wanted those roles , so the chorus roles were moe important than the leads. Just love being in the show however you are connected with it and you will go far.

Not everyone gets called back their first time... just remember that you are good and that just because they didn't like you doesn't mean that everyone thinks you're bad! I'm in love with musical theater and I think you have loads of courage for just trying out! Just keep trying! I really hope you get the callback! Best of luck

If you are an emotional person, there is no way to stop this. But don't be ashamed or embarassed. Crying shows your passion and love of what you want to do

Ask the teacher in charge if you can work the prop room or wardrobe.

I'm serious.
