Several years ago Great Performances broadcast the Goodman Theatres production of The Grapes of Wrath. It was a musicalization of the story. I have been trying to get a copy of that with no success. Does anyone have info on it? Thanks.

Strange question I know, but I ask it for a reason...

Success breeds contempt, and in musical theatre we feed off that fact. Over the years there have been a lot of shows which achieved great acclaim on Broadway that have earned backlash for being so popular--the current trend in jukebox musicals is a good example of this.

Personally, although it was the biggest of all musicals, I loathed and despised "Cats." Dreadful musical, set plots back 20 years (and please don't respond to this just to defend "Cats". I am aware I am in the minority on this opinion.)
However, "Cats" ran for 17 years on Broadway, broke all manner of records around the world, and is now an icon of American musical theatre.

So, the question begs: which massive musical rubs you the wrong way? Which must-have best-show fills you with inertia?? Which "Les Mis" is your personal Kryptonite? Does "Wicked" leave you wasted? Which Tony-winning show left you asking "what the %u@% was that all about?!?"

Jean Kerr once said: Young people wishing to become actors have an addiction only slightly less dangerous then heroin.

Hello out there all you drama junkies!

If you work in the theatre in any capacity, what or whom influences you the most in your theatrical life? Actors, what event caused you to choose this path? Singers, whose performances stole your soul away to the theatre? Dancers, how many of you remember the first moment you realized you were a dancer?
Technicians, what keeps you coming back for more? Costume designers-Edith or Adrian? Set designers, when did you decide to make everything work? Lights and Sound, who let you in on the secret? Directors, which show convinced you that you should be in charge? Audiences, what performances left you feeling transcendent and spent?

We are developing an amateur musical revue show at our local theatre and want to use a number of songs from other musicals/pop songs to place in around a story that we are developing. Would we need to gain copyright for each individual song (and if so how would we do this?), or is it ok to use one song from different musicals without obtaining the rights? Our local theatre is in the UK, so information on UK copyright laws would be appreciated!!!! (or good guesses!!). Thanks!
