Yep, Hollywood is where the work is.
Even if you live in a small town you could get started by working at the local TV station or community theater.
Your local library might carry a publication called 'ArtSearch'. It covers professional and educational theater.
If it were me, I'd find the local IATSE office, walk in and ask to be on the overhire list. Because I like getting paid to work. :-)

Maybe a small production company that makes industrial videos or something... you have to start somewhere!
