Skip on down to the Video store. By Bye Birdie was made into a movie many years ago. Got some great music and is based - in part - on Elvis at about the time he went into the Army.

Rent the video, download the lyrics, learn some of the songs as you never know what you will be asked to sing or read. There is a version available on video with **** Van Dyke and Ann-Margaret. (So-so version, but you can get the plot and music)
Make sure you understand who Kim MacAfee is in the show, so you know how to play her in any scenes the director has you read.
When doing auditions, I do not always have the actors singing a song for their part. I often have them singing the hardest song from the show. If they can do that, then can handle the easy ones. So be sure to review ALL the songs so you are at least familiar with them.
Keep us posted on how the audition goes.

For a show like Bye Bye Birdie it's good to use a piece from the show. Kim is a soprano, so make sure that you can hit those notes! Kim sings "How Lovely to Be a Woman," and I believe she also sings "One Boy." The first song is the best choice as it shows that Kim is a) A girl and not really a woman and b) Very naive. They may ask you to read for the part, in which case make sure you don't make her too womanly.

Okay you should really know about the show before you audition. Check out the show page at www.musicaltheatreaudition.com
Kim is a girl who is obsessed with a music star and gets chosen to kiss him on TV. Her boyfriend gets jealous etc.
Kim MacAfee (Soprano/Mezzo, 15, high A)
Winner of the kissing contest. A typical 50's teenager. Pretty, self-confident
So you want a song that is kinda teenage girl-ish. I suggest: The Sound of Music , Song: "Sixteen Going On Seventeen"

Best piece of advice I can give you is to spend a few bucks, go out to your local video/DVD rental store, and rent it. Don't go into an audition cold. You need to know the character and know the part, otherwise you'll be at a serious disadvantage to anyone auditioning for Kim that has seen the musical and/or read the script.

The best advice I can give you is to watch the movie as others have said but do not, under any circumstances do a song from the play/movie/etc. Directors hate that because when they see you singing a particular characters song they have difficulty picturing you in another roll. And if you are not what they want in that particular roll then you get a minuscule roll.

When's your audition? if you have a day or two, buy the soundtrack/video and listen to the words of Kim.

There are some books that prepare you step by step, seem for them at your community song keep. anybody who performs the piano all started without understanding something so do not problem. I took piano instructions when I discovered to play. Piano instructions tech you issues that are not cutting-edge in books like the thanks to position your palms and different stuff.
