After the successes of THE ROAD and THE PESTHOUSE, I set out to write my own postapocalyptic story, this dealing with a bleak outlook on manifest destiny. The story is written in the fashion of Cormac McCarthy and Ernest Hemingway. Anyway, I'm hoping to write the greatest postapocalyptic Western ever, and in doing so I hope that I can get some help here. I could use some ideas (for instance, the Oregon Trail is actually an ancient interstate overgrown and caked with ash). The event that ruined existence may have been a supervolcano eruption, maybe not. Suggestions would be greatly valued.

i am looking for a book that isnt drowning with unneeded description that slows the pace. I want a decent paced book with good/well rounded character, some action, and maybe a bit of romance (but not too much that makes it all cheesy). also if it isnt too much to ask i want a book without the cliched elves, dwarves, trolls, dragons things. i like original and innovative ideas. Please dont list any of the typical books like harry potter or game of thrones or starwars or lord of the rings or things like that cuz ive seen all that. i just need something fresh to read. It doesnt matter if its adult or teen. thnx. sorry if im being picky, im just sick of looking for a book to read and only finding crap. (not that the books i listed are by any means crap)

I like to write short stories a lot when i'm home alone and i have always wanted to become an author. But i know one kid in my school who wants to be a author more than me. and i'm worried that if i ever do write a book, he and all the cool people would hate me more than they do now and they'll make my life miserable. What is the name of the first chapter (in a novel, let's say) that is before the story really begins? Let's say that this chapter is something that has happened in the past (in the story) and then after that, is the actual story in present. Is this called something else, or is this just a "chapter"?

Does the mirror feel my reflection?


If we distinguish the sensation itself with out mind, does the sensation itself still exist?
I am thinking it does because our memories are based on sensations obtained.

My fiance was describing it to me...

It's post-apocolyptic. There's a woman healer who travels from camp to camp curing people with her various snakes in exchange for food/clothing/whatever. I think the book is probably 10 to 25 years old, maybe older.

There is a huge debate on how many horcruxes Lord Voldemort has. It's either 5, 6, or 7. People are arguing whether he had all 7 horcruxes before he went to kill Harry or if he was trying to make the 7th horcrux with Harry's death. In the Half-Blood Prince, Dumbledore was saying what he thought the horcruxes were .He said they were the Hufflepuff cup, The Slytherin Locket, something of Gryffindor or Ravenclaw and Nagini the snake, the Riddle Diary and the ring that belonged to Marvolo. What do you guys thing about this? How many Horcruxes Voldemort has?
He would have 7 horcruxes if he thought he needed to be the most powerful he could be to destroy Harry. He might have 6 if he was going to kill Harry for the 7th Horcrux.
