There is a huge debate on how many horcruxes Lord Voldemort has. It's either 5, 6, or 7. People are arguing whether he had all 7 horcruxes before he went to kill Harry or if he was trying to make the 7th horcrux with Harry's death. In the Half-Blood Prince, Dumbledore was saying what he thought the horcruxes were .He said they were the Hufflepuff cup, The Slytherin Locket, something of Gryffindor or Ravenclaw and Nagini the snake, the Riddle Diary and the ring that belonged to Marvolo. What do you guys thing about this? How many Horcruxes Voldemort has?
He would have 7 horcruxes if he thought he needed to be the most powerful he could be to destroy Harry. He might have 6 if he was going to kill Harry for the 7th Horcrux.

Well in the book it's always saying that he has 7 and that makes sence that he would have 7 because Voldemort metioned that 7 is the most powerful number. So I think that it's 7. And I don't think that he neccisarily needed to kill Harry just to get his 7th one becuase doesn't it depend on how many people he has killed in all or something....I don't know...I just finished the 6th book a couple days ago but it still confuses me a bit about that....

interesting question... OK, I won't say Harry Potter just because I like the character, however, I will say Harry Potter, because I think it's really awesome, strange, weird, creepy, and a great idea to turn Harry Potter, the chosen one, the Boy Who Lived, into a horcrux, even though it was not Voldemort's intention. That proves what a great author JK Rowling is! What an idea, I had no idea what was going to happen, it seems JK Rowling always has a trick up her sleeve! Nagini was an interesting horcrux too, well all horcruxes are "interesting", god, I sound like Hermione, I just think Nagini was an interesting choice to turn into a horcrux, the object that holds a part of your soul, and a part of your life. I think the Ring was a cool horcrux because it was a deathly hallow.

He wanted his soul in 7 pieces. One has to remain with his body and mind. So there are 6 horcruxes. Dumbledore destroyed one. Harry destroyed another. RAB (whoever he is) destroyed 3rd. So there are 3 still out there: the cup of Hufflepuff, an artefact from Ravenclaw or Gryffindor and Nagini. Read the book. It's all there.

There is six. The most magical number in the wizarding world is 7. Since it is seven Voldemort would split his soul into seven peices; making six horcruxes with the seventh part residing within his body.
First Horcrux- The Locket
Second- The Cup
Third-Nagini
Fourth- The Ring
Fifth- the Diary
Sixth- Something of Gryffindor's or Ravenclaw's.

Having Seven Horcrux's would mean Voldemort split his soul into eight peices, But since Tom is always going for powerful things I don't think he would pick Eight instead of seven (which is the most powerful magical number).

Voldemort has 6 horcruxes (&& one in his body) && they only found 2 of them so obviously Harry will try to destroy the remaining in the last book

I agree with Vampyre62442. In fact, right after Harry and Dumbledore watch the unaltered memory, Harry thinks that it should be 7 Horcruxes until Dumbledore reminds him that one portion of his soul is in his body. Therefore, J. K. Rowling likely intends it to be that there are 6 Horcruxes (unless she is tricking both us and Harry).

I think he had seven but that no one in the novel has realized that the last horocrux is actually Harry. Everyone seems to dismiss this theory but think about it. Harry feels pain every time that Voldemort is near and Voldemort is constantly in pain because he is not whole. Harry Potter can hear Voldemorts thoughts and also see visions in which Voldemort is actually doing stuff. Potter also is a parselmouth, which is Voldemorts gift. In the first book (or movie) the sorting house tries to put him in Slytherin but he refuses, Slytherin is the house of Voldemorts ancestors and the house that Voldemort ran himself. And last but not least, everyone argues why would Voldemort make Harry the horocrux when he would have to kill Harry in the end. He doesn't have to kill Harry until he gets that part of his soul back, hence him taking blood from Harry in the cemetery.

Well, of course we won't know for sure until we read the book, but I think he succeeded in making 6. Also, my guess would be that the unknown horcrux is the item of Rowena Ravenclaw's... it would make sense that he was trying to make the seventh, with Godric Gryffindor's item in Godric's Hollow the night Harry's parents were killed.

Just my two bits. =]

Well, DD believes he has six because he wanted to split his soul into 7 parts, 6 into horcruxes, and the seventh in his own body. You never know, though, DD might have been mistaken.

Voldemort asked Slughorn while he was still in school if dividing one's soul into seven pieces would be best. He made six horcruxes and the seventh piece resides in his person.
