I say see the movie first, then read the book, everyone always says the books are better, so if you see the movie first and like it then read the book which is going to be better then you don't end up disappointed either way.

Yes, yes, yes yes definitely read the book(s) first. Don't even go see the movie if you haven't read the books. I really dislike the Harry Potter movies (nothing personal) just because they're not the books. You'll love the books.

You should definately read the books first. I am 12 and I can read the 4,5,&6 book in about 1 week altogether. If you like the book it does not take that long to read because you never want to put it down! lol. It takes me forever to read a book I don't like, but the Harry Potter books are very easy for me to read. P.S. (for anyone) If you like the Harry Potter books and books like it..... check out the Gregor the Underlander series. Altogether it is called the UNDERLAND CHRONICLES and there are 5 books of it. I loved them all!!

I saw the Sorcerer's Stone and the Chamber of Secrets before I read the books. I'm kind of glad I did because then I didn't sit there the whole time thinking, "they left that out!" and "they changed that!" like I did when I saw The Prisoner of Azkaban. I agree the books are much better but think the movies might be more enjoyable if seen before reading the books.

If you're purely looking to be entertained by the movie and don't care about what actually happens, then no. If you want to know the full story and how much they altered the book in order to bring it to the big screen (and get a good feel for how rushed the movie may actually be), then you should read the book first.

i am a huge fan of harry potter and quite frankly since im 14 i dont like to read a big book like that. but i just end up watching the movies and enjoying myself, so i dont think you have to read them at all.
but if you wanted to, be my guest.
