Need help identifying sci fi/fantasy book...?

My fiance was describing it to me...

It's post-apocolyptic. There's a woman healer who travels from camp to camp curing people with her various snakes in exchange for food/clothing/whatever. I think the book is probably 10 to 25 years old, maybe older.

I read it but can't remember the title or author. It is old, and was out in paper. Oh well.
