I recall reading an autobiographical work called "Company Commander." It was along time ago , but I think it was a personal account of the Battle of the Bulge.

Depending on your preferences, Winston Churchill's book "The Gathering Storm" gives an in-depth perspective to the processes leading to WWII.

If you are interested in the Pacific theater, there is "The Divine Wind" {by Inoguchi, Nakajima, with Roger Pineau} Written by former members of the Japanese Imperial Navy with a US Naval Reserve officer, it chronicles the birth of the Kamikaze tactics of Japan. At the time I read it, I found it insightful to the bravery displayed on both sides of the Pacific battles. You might find it to be a good companion to the recent movie Letters From Iwo Jima.

you're examining some thing horrendously old. it incredibly is talked approximately as historic previous. some persons are especially fascinated interior the previous and others in basic terms do no longer think of it concerns a lot now, that it has no effect on the way we live immediately. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, take as an occasion the subject of worldwide warming. i don't comprehend a lot with regard to the subject yet i comprehend that we are paying now for the sins of the previous. i think of the classes historic previous teaches us are important and doubtless you will discover it extra exciting in case you appeared for a correlation to the modern.

-If You Survive by George Wilson- He was an infantry officer in Europe.
-Recon Scout- by a scout who fought in Africa, Italy, and rest of European theatre.
-Panzer Commander by Hans Von Luck- A really good book from the German point of view. Africa, Russia, Europe.

In fiction I like the stories by Tom Robbins- kinda cheesy but entertaining
