“World's use is cold, world's love is vain, world's cruelty is bitter bane; but is not the fruit of pain.”

What does this mean?

Do "trade paperbacks" ever start out as hardcover editions? For instance, I have never found a hardcover copy of "The Kite Runner". Thanks...

We have to come up with 5 ideas of a REALLY good thesis sentence for a literary analysis of The Most Dangerous Game...does anyone have any ideas?...Thanks in advance.

The first of my list is "Rainsford learns that the boundaries between the right and wrong of actions are not definite."

Can you define "great literature?" The best conversations I have seem to be about books that draw in readers, but may not stand the "test of time." SO....is that the main indicator of value?

I need to write a story based on a metaphor that goes like this; "Life is a car in motion. what is in your rear view mirror is not nearly as important as what is in front of you." The story has to show the metaphor instead of directly saying it in the story. Thank you!

Any parents out there? Anyway, I read this book called PRIVATE and its the best book I've ever read. It has a cliff-hanger ending and I don't know how I'll last until I get the next book. The only problem is, my mom thinks it's inappropriate and won't let me get the next book until she's read the first one. I think it's fine for a girl my age to read it, but I'd be embarrassed about some of the things in it, even though it's fine for a girl my age to read. Does that make sense? So can all you moms of teens tell me if it's appropriate so I can tell my mom?
