Any parents out there? Anyway, I read this book called PRIVATE and its the best book I've ever read. It has a cliff-hanger ending and I don't know how I'll last until I get the next book. The only problem is, my mom thinks it's inappropriate and won't let me get the next book until she's read the first one. I think it's fine for a girl my age to read it, but I'd be embarrassed about some of the things in it, even though it's fine for a girl my age to read. Does that make sense? So can all you moms of teens tell me if it's appropriate so I can tell my mom?

I'll tell you (and your mom) what I always say to people who want to censor books (or just not let their kids read them) and that is to have both read the book in question and discuss what they think about them. At 14 I think you are old enough to articulate what you like and don't like about a book and that your mother can tell you what she likes and doesn't like about the book. If she has an objection to something, she should explain to you why it concerns her. At that point it is up to you to show your maturity and let your mother know that you can deal with these things (i. e. throwing a fit is not a good idea - I've been there!).
