All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

As far as I know page numbers will depend on what edition of the book you have, by which publisher, etc, etc. The quotes I am taking are from The Harper Collins 1997 paperback edition so all page numbers refer to this edition.
"The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say." (chp 1 pg 35)
I think Bilbo was singing this song to himself in the first chapter when he started on his journey.
"Three rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordow where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie." (Chp 2 pg 49)
This is the most well known saying of the rings. It is when Gandalf is explaining the ring to Frodo.
"'What do you mean?' said Frodo, "Surely the Ring was his precious and the only thing he cared for? But if he hated it, why didn't he get rid of it, or go away and leave it?'
'You ought to being to understand, Frodo, after all you have heard,' said Gandalf, 'He hated it and loved it, as he hated and loved himself. He could not get rid of it. He had no will left in the matter.
'A Ring of Power looks after itself, Frodo. It may slip off treacherously, but its keeper never abandons it. At most he plays with the idea of handing it on to someone else's care - and that only at an early stage, when it first begins to grip. But as far as I know Bilbo alone in history has ever gone beyond playing, and really done it. He needed all my help, too. And even so he would never have just forsaken it, or cast it aside. It was not Gollum, Frodo, but the Ring itself that decided things. The Ring left him." (chp 2 pg 54)
The whole book in my opinion is full of good quotes and excellently written. To give you all the excellent quotes would take up a lot of space and a lot of time so I hope the few I have quoted here help.

i don't remember the page, but it was so hilarious when Gandalf scolded Pippin in the Mines of Moria (it was still funny in the movie ^^)
Gandalf: Fool of a Took! Throw yourself in next time and rid ourselves of your stupidity!
Hmmm....... can't remember page numbers...
Gandalf: Pity? It was pity that stayed his [Bilbo]'s hand. [referring to Gollum to Frodo]
Poems:
Seek for the Sword that was broken:
In Imladris it dwells;
There shall be counsels taken
Stronger than Morgul-spells.
There shall be shown a token
That Doom is near at hand,
For Isildur’s Bane shall wanen,
And the Halfing forth shall stand.
All that is gold does not glitter.
Not all those who wanter are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall the blade that was broken:
The crownless again shall be king.
One Ring to rule them all,
One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the Darkness bind them.

" 'Foiled again!' he said to his wife. 'And after waiting sixty years.
Spoons? Fiddlesticks!' He snapped his fingers under Frodo's
and stumped off."
The part is when Frodo is giving away Bilbo's stuff, and Otho
gets angry that he didn't become the heir of Bilbo.
I love the fiddlesticks part.
The page number is 41 and it countinues a little to page 42.
In chapter 1.

"That is not dead which may eternal lie,
but in strange eons even death may die."
It's in the back somewhere.
You gotta use this one:
"The last time I found a ring in the dark I almost broke a tooth."
"Take off the ring, you fool."

I was going to give you the one about pity, when Gandalf was referring to Gollum to Frodo, but someone has already gotten to it.
Three rings for the elven kings under the sky,
Seven for the dwarf lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for mortal men doomed to die,
One for the dark lord on his dark throne,
In the land of Mordor, where the shadows lie,
One Ring to rule them all, one ring to bind them,
One ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them,
In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie.
thats in front of all the books I think.

"...finest weed in the south farthing". Actually this may have been a condensation of original text for the screenplay, but it is invariably funny to a room of college age kids.
