Banned Books Week is at the end of September each year and is a week dedicated to celebrating the freedom to read.

Many bookstores and libraries set up displays during that week that depict books that have been banned or "challenged" (which means people have requested they be removed from shelves).

You can find a facts sheet about this week here:

There are a lot of different sponsers of the week and the activities vary by your area. Closer to 2007's Banned Books Week there should be events listed in your local paper or stop by a bookstore or library and see what they have planned.

Banned Books Week is a time when libraries and schools celebrate so to speak all of the book that used to be censored in schools and for use by private citizens. For example, Catcher in the Rye (after John Lennon was murdered).

My school library made a pile of the books that used to be banned and you could pick one up and take it out for loan like any other books. We had a fact sheet next to it explaining what books are there and why they were banned.

I'm guessing you read books that were banned in the past... like The Catcher In the Rye or something.

it's when you are supposed to excercise your freedom and read books other people can't.
