Although there is no known cure for writer's block, there is hope for temporary relief of symptoms. Some say exercise works to increase blood flow while others prefer a diet rich in brain food. The rest like to count on good friends to share with and that will stimulate a great idea, thus producing a ladder to climb the brick wall that I picture makes up writer's block.
I personally like to brainstorm by writing and sketching the things that come to mind no matter how weird or or how far out there they are.

Mike, I've been writing and published for more than 40 years, though never had a true "BLOCK" Without question there are "dry" periods.
Your issue is perhaps in Trying to hard to express in a very narrow, or defined area. No offense but, JUST WRITE!
No ego trip on my part but take a look at my blog page.

I WRITE, even when I have little of interest to say, to anyone in particular. For me it happens to be a lifelong passion, as I've kept journals since I was 6. I can't know if your passion for it is at my same level, but think of it as exercise if not anything else. BTW, when you notice it does seem like "work" STOP for awhile.
My opinion is "Don't" if you don't FEEL the context or have to actually INVENT text. Certainly a "journal" is a factual account, kept on a daily basis perhaps, of even the most mundane events, but at some point might be the impetus for Volumes of work.
My first book was just such a piece; taken from 15 plus years of journaling.
