This question is for people that know the book The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger. What's the reason why he wants to find the dark tower and what's the point.

Montgomery Travers was sweating bullets. He was standing in the doorway, looking out at his ridiculously high grass. His blue-grey eyes were darting all around the yard, assessing the threat, licking his dry lips. He slowly inched his bare foot toward the threshold. He still felt the carpet under his toes...more carpet...then, after what seemed like years, Montgomery feels the cool metal of the doorjamb.

i need to come up with some polls about books to put on my school website - at the moment, the question is 'which literary character would you least like to meet in a dark alley?', but it needs to be replaced soon and i need some more questions like that.

we've already done ones like 'most attractive character', 'best to have a lunch party with', etc...

and for anyone who's wondering, 43% say, i'd rather not meet voldemort, thanks. but alex from the clockwork orange is a pretty close second.

Like, for example, the Harry Potter Series. Yes, it is fantastic and I love it but I'm sure there are other series that are really good too- why did one take off and the other didn't? It seems to me like it just falls into place, but is there maybe a reason for it?

I love reading scary/supernatural/ghostly books, but they are hard to find (quality ones)

Any suggestions?

I dont like monsters or crime/mystery or magic or total "out-there" fantasy...just a good old ghost story...like "the witching hour" by anne rice.

I keep hearing that it's fantastic etc, but nobody ever gives a reason why...and each time I try to go to the bookstore to find it, they never have Twilight (although New Moon is stocked). Why is this so popular?

I am wondering the worth of one of my books. It is The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien. It is a cloth-bound, first edition and first printing with a big fold-out map in the back. The book is in mint condition.

Where can I find information on Pipilongstocking? Her character didn't stay around long. I remember reading her stories of mishaps when I was a child. She was a young girl, living alone, with pigtails. She had a horse, and a monkey as friends. Im trying to gather history on her so I can bring her back alive into a new book.

This book just recently came out, and is a best-seller right now... I just finished reading it today, and was extremely disapointed at the end... yes, it just stopped. In the middle of the story. I know that Stephen King is famous for that, so I should have been prepared, but I wasn't. Does anyone know if there will be a sequel to this book? I'm DYING to know what happens!!!
Also, for those of you who have read it, did you like it? I did.
