The people who condemn them have not/cannot read them.
The Harry Potter books are stories of good resisting and defeating evil. Those who want to burn them are supporting evil, and the book burning they desire is by itself evil.
You may note some arguments against them are comments about the quality of the writing. Again, made by people who don't read.
The Potter books have revived the interest of children around the globe in reading. Much to the chagrin of those who oppose education and learning in order to have a more easily fooled populace.
You used the correct word, "insane" actions by really really stupid people, some of whom are educated (does not overcome inherent stupidity) but most of whom are sheep that walk on two legs. Talk about Satanic...

I love the Harry Potter books. They are adolescent fiction, and should be taken as such.
It's not John Stein berg, or Shakespeare, but it is an enjoyable read.
That said, not everyone likes the same thing. That's okay. For every one nay-sayer, Ms. Rowlings has two fans... so I figure she still comes out on top.
I also won't introduce my kids (5&7) to them until they are older. They'll enjoy it more later, and I look forward to that time.
There are a few fundamentalist Christian groups who view any reference to withcraft as evil. Fiction or no. Well, that's thier perogative. They feel strongly about it, and should feel free to express themselves. Let it go.
Don't get so upset, they are good books, but they are just books. Most people like them, it's okay.
I don't believe in censorship, and I enjoy freedom of speech, but I do believe it is the parents responsiblity to monitor thier children. If they don't think thier children can handle it, they are probably right. These books will still be around when these kids grow up and will likely get read at that time... just to see what all the fuss was about. So it's all okay. Relax.

Some parents think that the young characters challenging authority and fighting adults is a bad thing. Also, some Christians don't want their kids reading about "witchcraft". I'm a Christian and I think the books are fine, though- I read a few of them myself. Parents just have problems with their children being old enough to understand fiction and non-fiction. I agree with that, but if the parents would sit down and maybe read the books WITH their children, there wouldn't be a problem.
However, LOTR is still #1 for me...

I adore Harry Potter books. People don't want their children to read them because of the witchcraft and how it conflicts with their religion. In my opinion take it for what it is. If their religion is strong then a simple book should not effect them. I don't think the book is childish. I'm 25 and I love the books. My roommate use to say they were childish till I made her read one and now shes hooked. I think the people that say they're are childish haven't actually read a page of it. So it's basically out of ignorance.

I am a Christian and I love the Harry Potter books. Christianity says to beware those that practice spells and claim to have magical powers, but this is fiction and not real life. The books have great moral value if people would take the time to read them before judging. Enjoy them for what they are, entertainment!!

I LOVE these books, and I am so disappointed there won't be anymore. I was really looking forward to the next. i think we should get a petotion and write to JK Rowling, asking her to carry on. These books will go down in history. Are people the same about Philip Pullman? I think the people who take the mick, in my experience, are the people who don't read books at all!

I do not think that there is anything wrong with the Harry Potter books. Personally, I have not heard anything about parents banning their children from reading them. Are you sure that your source is not flawed?

I think the Potter books are fantastic. I only wish they were around when I was younger. I don't see anything wrong with any kid reading them.

A lot of people who consider themselves devout Christians are banning the books because of its references to witchcraft.
