Dougal’s and Jan’s story.
Dougal and Jan go through a tough time in their relationship, with 3 children and Dougie’s nan to look after.
Dougal gets a new job, as he is promoted to manager after Jan accidentally runs over the last manager. (No body but Jan and Dougal’s nan know this.)
But in his new job, Dougal has to work long hours, and Jan is left to look after Marge (nan), and ends up going mental.
But after they go off each other, Jan needs to do anything to get her husband back, so she announces that she’s pregnant with his baby.
But little does she know that she is actually pregnant. (She was telling a lie when she announced she was, but she was, but didn’t know)
And when the bump arrives she wants an abortion, but Dougie wants a son, (their other children are girls). So he tries to sway her decision.

Then it was the worst day of Dougie’s life. His wife, Jan, falls down the stairs and kills the baby, and then she runs out of hospital when not meant to, and threatens to jump of the cliff.
But whilst this happens, Dougal and his nan are in Edinburough, as his nan’s wish, and she dies in the hotel room in her sleep.
When Dougie arrives back home, he realises that Jan’s gone, and their neighbour, Rosie, informs him that his wife has had a fall, and when he rushes to hospital he finds out that Jan has ran away from hospital, and his baby was dead. But the worst news was that the baby was a boy.
Dougal knows, from their 20 years together, that Jan always goes to Bulpoint Cliff when depressed, and jumps into his car to rush and get her and finds himself speeding at 50mph down a narrow country road.
Unlucky for him, there is a tractor coming in the opposite direction, and when the two meat at a tight corner, the worst comes out. The tractor stops emedietly, but when Dougal tries to swerve to miss it, he goes through a stone wall, and into the river…

The story will be in two halves, Dougal’s story and Jan’s story.

I wrote a poem that is really good. I showed it to some family members and they all think it's great and that I should get it published.
I wrote it about my little girl.

Help! I'm looking for a book. It's full of (v. funny) letters from Gap Year students to their parents. There was an article about this in The Mail on Sunday a few weeks ago, if this helps.

Why does Antonio say he will surrender one pound of flesh if the money is not paid when surely Bassanio could have taken responsibility for the bond himself?

As I understand it,irony presents a word/ value and follows up by undercutting our expectations of the literal or expected meaning of the word/ value. Ex. of irony from Chaucer-

THE PRINCESS IS CHARITABLE,
SHE WEEPS WHEN SHE SEES AN ANIMAL IN PAIN.

Doesn't irony mock the object of the irony? Or can irony be used in a non-mocking way? Is there less judgement in irony than in sarcasm?

I would like to translate a book I read as a child growing up in Sweden. But I don’t know anything about getting the rights (the author passed away), what I can change in the book such as name of the characters, the town it takes place in and other details that are very particular to Sweden but would have to be changed for the reader here in the US. I would like to do the translation myself? Any information would be help.

expanding alien species arrives to claim Earth
they resurrect a few individuals for questioning before killing each in turn.

I am a first-time novelist writing a novel kind of geared towards older teens, but that I'm sure adults would enjoy too... my point is it's not really for 12-13 year olds. The main character, who is the first-person narrator of the story, swears a lot and I am wondering if it is innapropriate. She is 16 years old, has ADHD and probably a learning disabillity as well, gets frustrated easily and is kind of inarticulate (although she's actually pretty intelligent). She's also a little rebellious. The other characters usually don't use foul language more than once in a while. So I'm wondering, is this OK?
